I use a similar system. I have tons of music , I basically sort music for about 2 hours 3 nights a week. Been collecting music consistently since 2003 and it's worth it.

You can more easily organise sub folders inside your Decades Folders by using Smart Crates instead of Crates. Example using a '2000s Pop' Smart Crate instead of Crate will auto populate and update if you simple set the Smart Crate to add Songs marked with Genre Pop and Year 2000 to 2009. You could even go so far as to create a standard Crate '2000s Pop' with a number of even more specific Smart Crates nested inside of that. Example Smart Crates set with Genre is Pop, Year is 2000 to 2009, Comment Ladies. Or Genre is Pop, Year is 2000 to 2009, Comment Chill. Or Genre is Pop, Year is 2000 to 2009, Comment Banger, BPM 120+ Smart Crates are seriously awesome.

I used scratch live instead of serato DJ pro for the first time in a couple years. The version of serato scratch live I used didn’t have the keys of songs at all…… and it was awesome!!!! I didn’t pay attention to key at all for the first time in a while and I was so much more creative. Happy accident.

Nice 👍🏾. You could also create Smart Sub Crates that auto pull in Genres/Years/BPM. The. Run through and delete dupes or low quality files 🤔

I noticed you used traditional key not the camelot system. How do you use in mix matching?
@Sedthesaint3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I used to play the piano and I'm learning the guitar now so I understand musical keys, chords and what sounds good together. The Camelot system is no doubt the best and fastest way to mix in key though.

I love your organization strategy. What if you create crates by genre, and the sub folders by that genre year?
@Sedthesaint3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's a great way as well. Especially if you tend to play one genre per event or play genres in sections during your set. Like for instance you'll play house for about 10 minutes and then go to hip hop or Latin for the next 10 or 20 minutes.

I used to think lying everything up by year was a good thing is good to use the years but if you go through your entire library and you have a big library some songs are not going to have years attached to him and that would become a problem you know I like to freestyle a lot but usually BPM overall never fails if you use the BPM and I've been doing this for over 35 years there's never going to be a perfect way to do crates some DJs don't even organize their libraries at all

Do you do it by bpm ?
@Sedthesaint3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your question - I don't organize it by bpm but by the billboard charts years and genres and then within that crate I sort by bpm and song key. Hope this helps!!

How would you go from a really low bpm to a real high bpm because I know alot of songs dont sound good if you speed them up to high
@Sedthesaint3 жыл бұрын
@@southsidemikevlogs that's a great question! We'll definitely have to do a video on that concept. To give you a quick answer, there's a few ways to do it. You could match bpms and if you're using pitch lock, the next song that you bring in can be adjusted back to its original bpm incrementally without your audience noticing it too much.
