@gazblackheart45963 жыл бұрын
@Tommie Andersson Like the wind , You came here running. The first lyrics make it seem to make much more sense my way, since "run like the wind" is an actual phrase that means to run fast. I know of no supposed record you claim to exist and probably isn't proven to be anything. Anyone can say anything online so you are gunna need to show me what you are talking about.

@Tommie Andersson A video that has no explanation of what it is. (Ex. using a program to clean up the audio etc.) It has almost no interaction, and the little it does have one of the few comments is that they think it sounds like "like the wind" lol. Like I said anyone can put up a lyric video saying it says one thing but it doesn't count as proof.

The fact that Depeche Mode is on the tape and that "Blind The Wind" sounds kinda similar to DM is weird
@spektrum874011 ай бұрын
Nah ik Dave Gahan's voice and it doesn't sound the same.. maybe quite similar.. lots of 80s synth pop bands used to sing that way. But i promise it's not Dave. Another fact that will convince you : Depeche Mode never used guitars in their 80s era.. only synthesizers. Alan Wilder used a lot the Emulator-II (he rarely used the DX7 which is the one used on Like The Wind). Depechey started to use guitar in the late 80s.. a lot in the 90s until they almost become a Grunge band.

I find it very strange that 'Like the Wind' does not really seem to fit into this lineup. The other songs are very synth-heavy with a more positive attitude and often experimental while TMS is melancholic and more conservative in instrumentation. It also seems to go with a more traditional rhythm and pacing. The production quality is not bad but not top notch. It falls a bit flat compared to the other songs in this sampler. Strangely enough, this makes the song stand out more and captures my emotion with its monotone and melancholic singer. A nice time capsule.

If we compare the songs on these tapes to their actual counterparts and find the different (if it was slowed down or quietened). Then we can reverse those effects on TMMSOI to find what it really sounded like
@rabbitraisin3 жыл бұрын
I have most of them, they're playing correctly, or soooo close to it would be imperceptible difference. But yes tapes could drag slower, or even play faster sometimes. And also back in those days of playing vinyls each turntable could play slightly differently too lmao. Come to think of it so could the casste player! I think it gave the listener a more personalised relationship with what they were hearing! I mean unless it was REALLY off the differences would be tiny, but picked up on in subconscious level :) When I was younger the only way I had of hearing old 80s music was on ancient portable mono turntable from like the 60s or 70s that my parents had in attic, which was damaged slightly and gave everything a slur once per rotation, so I grew up hearing midge ure's cover of "the man who sold the world" with this eerie drag and that's how I knew and loved the song and hearing first time normally was so weird lmao, to me the normal is just not right! xD

Interesting. I love things like this which keep people guessing. Is it genuine? Is it some unsigned artist who faked a recording in his bedroom, bouncing a digital recording down to tape, back to digital, then back to tape several times to give it that old & grainy tone? I only question this because I've done similar things having spent over a decade in a recording studio, recording & producing a few hundred songs. Sometimes you just want that retro sound, so you bounce a digital recording down to an old 4 track, then back to digital, before normalising at 0db. There are a few things that makes me question the legitimacy of the mystery song: firstly, the lack of depth at the bass end, then there's the guitar which sounds particularly tinny - likely a cheap amp, cheap mic - or both, & not good mixing, suggesting a home (rather than studio) recording. It sounds as though either the mic is too close to the amp, & "on axis" (pointing right in the middle of the cone), or a line has been taken out the back of the amp & plugged straight into the recording device. There's no "air" about it. Finally, there's not much compression on the beats compared to other tracks recorded here. Tape gives you natural compression, & works particularly well on drums, eg, it smooths out the aggressive "attack" on a snare drum, making it much easier on the ears. In this regard, "the mystery track" stands out like a sore thumb. Overall impression, the track isn't mastered. These are just observations I make based on years of experience, & having made every mistake in the book when it comes to mixing & mastering music. Anyway, I know I'm late to the party, but glad I found this. I'll listen to the whole playlist on the weekend whilst out with family. I'll torture my kids with it.😂

I think this doesn't exist, because we would not record the DJ talking when we were taping songs from the radio. I'm sure with the DJ voice the mysterious song wouldn't be that much of a mystery even if he or she would have been cryptic about it.

Who does old cassette recordings have punchy drums (not gated reverb it’s something els)
@HazelTheHare4 жыл бұрын
It's called tape saturation. Its what happens when you max out the audio levels on tape. Sometimes it's a desired effect.

Plot twist: the most mysterious song on the internet is made by Darius so is just a troll
@20windfisch11 Жыл бұрын
Might be, but my theory is that it was made as a cry for help in disguise from desperate East-German people. The song has a very strong East-German feel to it, and you can interpret the lyrics in a way that they are about being born into a country you don't like, can't leave and can't tell anyone about your feelings, instead you must fake being ok or even happy with it, and finally, just make do. I believe that this was made by some East German musicians who had access to professional equipment (e.g. because they were studio musicians for pop singers) and the vocals were later overdubbed with amateur equipment in a garage or cellar. This song then somehow got into the hands of an NDR journalist who was stationed in the GDR and he had it played on that show.

@@20windfisch11 5 years later: the wall falls That theory is a bit "movie-like" I must say, but considering Paul Baskerville (the NDR DJ) did state that he believed that this was a one-time demo played by an NDR presenter, it is plausible that it was a favour carried out by an NDR presenter

This is a big fake! We're all betrayed here! The cassette has just not been completely recorded. And a radio show is moderated. That is not the case here. Numerous songs were simply chased through a filter and the Check.mp3 integrated.

The reason you here no DJ is because Darius S, the guy who recorded and ripped the tape, intentionally cut out the DJ voices

When we made mixtapes, we stopped taping during the presenter's interjections, or commercials, then resumed again when the music came back on. We wanted the tape to be only music.
