Ah yes my favorite hammer combo dlight weapon-throw unarmed-dlight jump gc dlight reverse-recovery cd-down sair(dodge read) dlight sair (or if their is a platform and your hammer character has over 5 dex, after dlight jump cd-recovery platform cancel dlight dair (side sig on some characters). Kinda easy though

On console I find it rough that I didn’t pick up playing with a dpad, hammer feels very movement based to get an opening with how slow it is and i just find it hard to use

Btw Joystick offers more range of motions than keyboard/d-pad

@@soapa6843 Isn’t the range of motion that hurts it? You don’t have to extend out the dpad like you would a stick, which makes your inputs quicker. Similarly to traditional fighting games where people will use the dpad for movement (as it’s how you throw out attacks/strings) instead of using the stick. For example theoretically a near frame perfect move like dlight nair on gauntlets is of course possible on joystick but there’s less delay on the dpad. I’ve used joystick too long to switch but I wish I had that muscle memory on the dpad tbh

@Na0811te the range of motion is so little that it hardly matters. When using dpad and you are trying to do some combos you haft to let go of a button if you are trying to input something diagonal. If you input left then up on the dpad it goes more left, and if you input up then left it goes more up. On joystick you can just roll the stick 0.02 inches and fix it. Overall keyboard is slightly easier/consistent and stick has a higher skill ceiling because it's easier to miss input on stick. Everyone still miss inputs on keyboard a lot tho. FYI dpad and keyboard input the same in the game. Also I left keyboard for controller literally because of joystick. Its just whatever works best for you. Don't ever try to change just because someone says "it's easier".

I wouldn't say overlooked, Hammer was OP back in 2016-2017 then they destroyed it beyond belief. While axe and cannon thrived in being able to spam tons of moves and be faster than "light weapons" as "heavy" weapons hammer always fell short, it was slow, hard to punish with and all of its combos either got destroyed or became too hard to do. Now it hits hard, its a bit faster yet once you fight someone in 2200 you realize it is still SOOOO slow and you'll get punished easily while rarely catch punishes yet your 1 attack is equal to their 3-4 attacks. I love how fun it is right now, used to main it in 2016 now I'm finally back to it. Fun fact, russian mafia with right dex, really specific hp and incredibly optimal inputs can still be done as a true combo
