Trial 4 was about taking the exisals out. After each death a monokub that messed up the trial is out and that means a exisal is out. Kokichi needed some kills to force the monokubs to mess up the trial so Monokuma would kill them. It was just too perfect, the only characters that could argue against his lie of being the mastermind Miu wanted to kill him so she would make ther perfect sacrifice. After that he used Gonta to kill Miu and if you pay attention he only started acting as the mastermind after he saw the monokubs die. Gonta truly was the most usefull his death killed 2 monokubs no more exisals. After gonta death Kokichi plan was to fake being the mastermind separate Kaito from everyone because he woul be the one to still fight even after knowing it was pointless and then search for the mastermind himself while nobody has no reason to kill from the motives that monokuma gives because there's no reason to get out anymore, the outside world is destroyed. And then Monokuma used the flashlight which made everyone get their will to fight back without it nobody would stand agaisnt Kokichi and he would be able to find the mastermind.

This trial. This trial is so emotional and convoluted. Kaito and Kokichi working together to ruin the killing game was such a great twist. Remember in chapter 2 when Shuichi pointed out that Kaito thinked like Kokichi. This chapter really shows that they both just want the same goal. To end it all, no matter what. Super glad you catched that Shuichi helped Monokuma. Shuichi ruined it all. 😔

Spoilers below. Kaito's death feels like a gut punch to me. I spent an entire hour crying when I first saw it, and I thought no other Danganronpa death could make me feel that sad..... until I watched the 5th execution from Danganronpa Another Despair Academy.

Chapter 5 Trials have a theme, creating a convoluted plan and attempting to influence the trial in order to save someone. Nagito going to make an unsolvable case and was willing to allow himself and everyone else to be killed in order to save the traitor. Kokichi and Kaito were willing to sacrifice themselves and fuck with Monokuma and the trial in order to save Maki from becoming the blackened and everyone else.

Ok Kokichi yap session time as his number 1 defender. Kokichi's main goal was to stop the game and save everyone. Everything he did earlier on were all apart of his plan; he created a murder where the victim was unknown, but he wanted it to seem like Kaito died. That was to trick Monokuma and the actual mastermind. If he managed to do that, in Kokichi's way, that would make him win the game and end it for all. He actively tried to find the mastermind and save the others from any danger, infact, he was one of the main reasons they were all still alive to Chapter 5. Without him, they all would've died soon after Kaede. Kokichi pretended to be the mastermind to try and fish out the actual mastermind. That note too, was prepared to make it seem like he was the mastermind. "Manipulating" Gonta into killing Miu, all of that? Apart of his plan. He made the most effort to stop the game for good. He wanted to save everyone. Kokichi purposefully antagonized himself, giving them a common enemy to fight against, so they would all hate one person singularly, making the chances of a killing happening possibly lower. He MADE himself the villain for the sake of others. He will always put everyone else above himself; he even sacrificed his life to save them and end the game. Why'd he instigate the Insect Meet and Greet? So everyone would watch all their motives together, inorder to point out the inconsistencies in (the motives) incase a murder happened. He did all of that for the sake of them; Shuichi even mentions there was no hint of malice on Kokichi's face during that. Kokichi is not a one-note villain, hell he isn't even a villain. He was just a kid stuck in a life or death situation like the rest of them. Kokichi is an extremely well-written and complex character, so I stand by my point, Kokichi best boy.
