If you don't act on information given to you because the person giving it could have a grudge then our whole legal system would collapse because most of it is based on human given information. No more taking victim complaints. No more witnesses. No more testimony in court. Because the person "might" have a grudge. Do you see how silly that logic is?

'information' that does not come from a source that can be trusted and has no evidence to support it is not useful information. My point is that if you as person A if they think person B is a security risk and you know next to nothing about either person, it is a useless question. If A says, 'no' and you don't do further checking on B and they turn out to be a problem, you're just as wrong as if A said, 'yes' and you spend excessive time and resources trying to press B when they aren't a threat at all. I mean no matter what 'A' says, you still need to do your investigation of B and judge based on what, if anything, that turns up.. so why even bother asking? It's a bad question in that case because to allow the answer to influence your judgment about B is a mistake. I can't argue about court policy/procedure because it is different in different countries and I'm not versed in it in any country. But I expect it is standard practice to challenge the validity of a witness. To trust anything and everything any witness says would make a joke of the proceedings (if you're assuming the goal of the process is to reveal the truth as best as possible). If you're going to make a decision that significantly affects someone's life based on something negative that someone with a grudge says against them, you damn well better be sure that what that 'witness' is saying is accurate enough and relevant enough to the matter at hand and not twisted, embellished, or outright falsified. That's my thinking anyway. So ultimately, my point is that I'd be very surprised for a phone interview like that one in the prank to take place in reality. Anyone responsible for something as serious as national security wouldn't be wasting their time with what a restaurant owner's personal assessment of the risk is for someone who may or may not have even worked for them. If anything, you'd probably start off just asking basic factual questions to match up against any other info you've gotten so far.. 'what kind of work did this person do for you', 'how long were they employed by you', 'where there any problems in the work place involving them', etc. That's the kind of thing that runs through my mind. I will say this though: it's been a while since I played the vid so I don't remember any more what else was said in the conversation prior to the question.. and I certainly have the benefit of knowing it is a prank. Had I been in person A's shoes and wasn't yet suspecting it was a prank or something unusual, that question would have seemed strange to me but I can't say if it would have been strange enough to blow Russel's cover right then and there. I'd be seriously questioning if it was real at that point though if I wasn't already. But it's not the first time I've seen clips where Russell has said something that seemed like it should have given him away and the other person accepted it. That continues to amaze me. Shows it is hard to judge how you'd really react in that situation.
