When coaches, at that level, speak in a sort of awe about a skier's talent / power, they are basically telling you, without saying it, that she is the best in the world. If she wants it, there is no reason she can't be the World Champion for a very long time. Awesome video.

I loved ice when I was racing. You could tilt an ice rink at an angle and I could ski it. Ice makes for a very durable course.

Yeah, powder isn't so good for racing. I like ice and breakable crust because powder days are such a scene now with fat skis and high capacity lifts. Any goon can ski powder but you have to have solid technique to ski ice.

That's a pretty tight GS course she is practicing on. I wonder what her sponsership is like with Volkl because those RaceTiger GS tries to do too much with the dual wood core trying to compensate for the double metal laminate. With a nice amount of power, Robinson might benefit from a stiffe rmore responsive ski but most racers at her level might have tried all the skis that are availible by now.

Maybe someone can answer this: obviously she generates insane edge angles. Is this also where the most pressure in her turns happens, or does it just set it all up for max. pressure at the bottom of the turn?

Yes, the highest pressure for edge angles should be at the apex of the turns. At the bottom of the turn the skis should be releasing and preparing for the next turn

Her max edge angle is when she passes the gate, with her skis more or less going straight down the fall line. So there is MORE pressure there than when she is actually fighting gravity when she's cutting across the fall line a bit lower in the turn beneath the gate?

@@Zeda1002 I disagree; comparisons with men are not meaningless...they just need to be tempered with an understanding of women having different geometry and especially center of balance. Obviously they aren’t as strong as the men but I would rather watch Mikaela ski all day than any of the men; even when she first broke out onto the WC stage she exhibited balance rivaling Marlies Schild in her PRIME! I was so floored I couldn’t (like everyone else) peel my eyes off her! I feel the same about many of the current women, including Alice. Her power is so fun to watch and when she gets in rhythm few if any can match her (including Mikaela!)

I just have a long library of WC video packed away with some strange grey noodles in the hay loft going back to the late 80s (Tomba, mostly back then). Sorry? Hirscher won several world cups, general and special. Robinson, absolutely not. When she will have won something serious we can speak again but, for sure, not compare her to Marcel. Is she powerful and has her modern attitude? Yes. Is she a champion? No, and It’s not an opinion, is a fact. In the future we will see and, for sure, I will support her.

Great video! Spring before they filmed this, I watched Robinson doing turns at Mammoth and soaked with Warner at the hotspring. Skiers like Robinson and Schiffrin stand out even when there are several national teams training up there. Warner described his vocation as "washed up ski racer". Good times. Gotta love the ski life.

The Komperdell pole uses magic dust which is slightly different than the dust Leki uses in their poles. The magic dust makes them stronger and more aerodynamically suited for GS. The green you ask? That color comes from the magic dust!!!
