I was issued an 06 Auto when I got to my first duty station back in '05. Carried that knife religiously for almost 11 years until it was stolen out of my truck this past year... Had a lot of memories with that knife and it saw a lot of travels in the military. One of the best knives I've ever owned, PERIOD! Thanks Gerber for producing the best for the best!

I'm a retired First Responder from a small town Fire Dept. I carried the 06 auto because of the bang for the buck, I loved how you could beat the knife and at the end of the day if you remembered, I could clean up , sharpen the blade. The auto button never failed to open the blade when I needed to cut the seat belt in an auto accident. Those 06 knives were the go to knives on some of the LE's also in the City.

Many thanks to Gerber. The 06 Auto is an amazing EDC. Although a bit more heft than other knives, I think it's about the most utilitarian piece to any military soldier. I used Gerber during my time in the Marines and they never failed me.

During my time in the USAF, I searched high and low for a blade that I could carry every day in my fatigues that could stand up to the demands i would put on it during training or potential future deployments. The Gerber 06 was the knife that answered. While it isnt the most precise instrument, it is a TANK and i have used it multiple times as a hatchet, a machete, and as a pry bar. An amazing example of overbuilding and properly designing a quality product.

First and only time I have seen one of these was when I was about to deploy in 2019. I was a newer PL and I asked my platoon sergeant what kind of knife I should get for the deployment. He pulled one of these out of his pocket and said he was issued this before his first deployment in 2006. He said they don’t issue them anymore but he would never carry anything else. That thing was worn to bare metal but the action was still butter smooth. It impressed me how much that war hero cherished that knife, and does to this day. I ended up buying a Matt Would Go 245 and strapping it to my IBA. I still think about his 06 Auto, might pick one up soon.

unfortunately, two of the last three Gerber knives I have received failed. I'm talking about catastrophic failure in the frame locking mechanisms of both knives. I have watched the quality of Gerber knives dip in the past years as production shifted to overseas factories. I don't want Gerber just to talk the talk about American made qualities, I want them to prove it to Americans. I have seen Buck Knives resurrect their quality and return to American production. I am appalled by the failure in my Gerber knives and I'm lucky I didn't cut my hand. I'm sad to say this happened when I was filming a product review on my KZbin channel. Gerber has some attractive products, but I am very leary of their commitment to improved quality. Gerber needs to refocus, work with customers and dump their China made garbage. Buck did it and as a result I have way too many of their knives to list. Please focus on real reviews and quality craftsmanship when releasing and promoting knives.

Secondly, I am raising a five year old that follows me everywhere and lives a good knife as well. My first *real* EDC knife (SAKs and multi-tools don't count) was a Gerber AR 3.0 purchased around 2002. Despite being a budget knife, it proved to be a true value and provided many years of great service before it was lost to theft. I purchased another without hesitation the next day and carried it for several more years. I have since expanded my collection of EDC blades including selections from Kershaw / ZT, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Microtech (all thanks to Blade HQ actually). However, you never forget your first. Thanks Blade HQ for a great video showcasing a great American company and for the opportunity to add another fine knife to the collection. Thank you to all who continue to serve at home and abroad.

I had one when i was deployed to iraq and afghanistan. Best use was for opening MREs then anything else. Whack something hard with it and it comes part and dirt and grime gets in and does not open up as smooth. I stuck with my Ka Bar bayonet, tried and true, thats a knife that has earned the name the marines best friend next to his rifle. Even with gloves the damn thing slips because the grip is so smooth. If you went for this rather then your bayonet your Drill Instructor would probably hunt you down and smack you back to boot camp.

Gerber makes the best fixed blade production knives. I still have the one my father carried during World War II and through the Occupation when he was in the US Army. But now I am anxious to see what Gerber has brought to its automatic knife line. I have several Kershaw automatics of different dimensions and styles, but the quality seems to be slipping lately and some have been outright atrocious for a Made In USA product. Should I be fortunate to win the Gerber 06 Automatic Knife, I will do a review of it and post it on my KZbin channel. As our Commander-In-Chief has said, "Make America great again." Gerber, however, has been great since its founding in 1939.

I've been through any number of other brands over many years, including some other large names in Portland we need not mention (since I live here in PDX, I like to support local business), but you know what still gets used? Gerber EZ-out. Every. Damn. Day. Despite my best efforts, I can't destroy the thing. And I love you guys for that. Keep up the great work, and thanks for not only building it in the USA, but keeping the price point reasonable!

Kayvon Afshar, first you don't know me to say I've never owned anything else, secondly I gave my opinion based on my experience with Gerber products, thirdly it sounds like you're on a hate mission against Gerber! Your ideas, experience and opinions don't sway me in any way. You should express your discontent directly to Gerber, not to me or anyone else for that matter. Again that's my opinion!

Careful, Kayvon. There's a huge inaccuracy in your comment: "they stopped all Americana production in the 90s." Actually, Gerber employs hundreds of people in their Portland, Oregon manufacturing facility. All of the shop footage we shot for this film was in their factory. They also manufacture overseas (not featured in the film), but all of their autos are made in the U.S. Whether you like Gerber or hate them, let's all recognize that they do manufacture in the U.S. -Ben

I think we all understand that they make certain products such as this specific auto in the united states. But the *majority* of their production and the majority of their products are not made within the united states, and yet carry the same branding. Gerber has become a joke within the knife community for providing some of the lowest quality products on the market backed by their once well respected name. Just because they chose to build a couple autos within the US and charge premium prices does not change the fact that they have completely lost touch as a company and provide people with sub par products banking on the fact that some people might still believe they are a quality brand from a time well passed.

@angel n I assume this because I have a hard time believing that you actually chose to carry gerber over knives made by spyderco, benchamde, ZT, or even CRKT. The quality difference is night and day.

The Gerber is a good American product. I have used the various multi-tools, at home and overseas, for years and they have replaced them without question the few times I wore them out or broke them. Even on tools that I had for twenty years. Bravo Zulu!

just watched the video on the 06 auto knife and I'm proud that the men and women who serve my country are using this knife and I'd love to win one because they look great to. A physical disability has made it impossible to work anymore and money is to tight to afford one but with 3 years sober I'm working on changing my life and maybe soon I can afford one to hand down to my son. Thank you for supporting our troops

Been a fan of Gerber since I was 18. Now almost 47, and still a huge fan. It would be a HUGE honor to win one of your awesome knives.

I've used gerber knives for around 10 years. Everyone has their own experiences but I've never been let down by a gerber

06 auto tanto. Best knife I've ever owned. Fires hard every time. Stays sharp as a razor.

Didn't know until this video how much Gerber supplies to the Army and Marines. Looks like a 06 Auto is on my wishlist.

That was a great video. I know Gerber sometimes takes some flak, but, I still use my Gerber multi tool form the mid 90s, it has never let me down.

I love the Gerber products. I own several models and have given many to my sons and grandsons. I am never without one in my pocket.
