The thing about this kind of physics sandbox is that there are certain kinds of simulations that aren't so "close" or "accurate" to reality when compared to a more traditional racing simulator. If you've ever tried lapping the Nurburgring Nordschleife with a high powered vehicle in this sandbox, trying to control it is a nightmare. This doesn't mean that BeamNG is inadequate as a simulator, it's just the parameters involved within BeamNG is very tricky to tune such that the vehicles behave more realistically. All of this is my uneducated opinion since I haven't actually done experiments between the different simulations to get hard data and find which bits are "more accurate" or "less accurate".

I wish somebody would make an endurance racing game on BeamNG’s engine. How amazing it would be to have something like a 24 Hours of Le Mans with a proper damage model and mechanical failures, especially on vintage cars. Imagine driving a GT40, where on top of dealing with the driving and strategy like usual, you’d have to actually take care of the car as those were rather fragile pieces of equipment. You’d have to make sure you revmatch properly or you’d lose the transmission and be gentle on the engine and brakes to preserve them.

If only more people understood just how good a sim this is. Yet the majority is heeding Jimmy Broadbent's opinion who never approached it as seriously as it requires. Crashes be damned, this thing has much more satisfying handling than the idiotic crashes. Might as well remove most of the jBeams and make it online-capable. By the way, Automation's cars have simplified jBeam structure, and thanks to that are less taxing on the CPU.
@Sternendrache114 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm kinda sad that Jimmy never really gave it a real chance, even complaining about the handling while driving in chase cam and similar. There's so much potential in Beam and it really looks like they're slowly getting to a point where they can start maximising that.

@@noiderate3132There isn't a unified driving model, since the engine renders the suspension and body of the vehicle in real time. The problem with racing sims such as rFactor2, Assetto Corsa, or AC: Competizione is that they contain real, licensed cars, and the manufacturers of those real cars explicitly forbid sim makers to show their cars being damaged or destroyed; that's why the visual damage model is symbolic in these sims - not because of the deficiencies of the game engine, but because of the manufacturers' policy. If BeamNG were to obtain licences to present real cars, they'd most likely be forced to do likewise.

I’d just like to say that calling Automation a “utility” for Beam is an underestimation. It’s a completely separate game with it’s own campaign mode and everything, and has been in development for almost as long as Beam has been. The car creator in Automation is among the most involved there is, going into fairly comprehensive detail be it in engineering or design. Not only that, the campaign mode goes deep into the business aspect of car production and is currently in rapid development. I absolutely love it, I’ve done almost 1000 hours in it alone. I highly recommend it if you love the work done behind cars 😄

If you ask me, one of the greatest car simulators ever, even when it still not finished. And yes, I agree with the fact, that many see it too much as a one trick pony, that used only YT content creators for making yet another crash collection, when there is so much more under the hood. Cherry on top is the fact that I have great interest towards physics modelling, so... It is great to see how well it is done there.

I love this idea. but my childhood dream (when i first played gran turismo) was to have cars that had every component that could eventually fail why wouldn't you buy a second hand car if it didnt matter how many miles are on the clock why are some cars more reliable than others... little things like batteries failing, valves and other parts going wrong- limp mode (every german car ever) - you could implement a model where some cars (japanese) were just more reliable but others (sports) had better handling and fun I would love a game that has a sim option- you start off with 10k - buy your car, race on the streets- and have to maintain the car- slowly make it stronger but be aware that every addition could break something internal break- a single crash mode could effectively make every race a thrill and force more cautious behaviour as a single crash could destroy your entire build. also a kudos system like metropolis street racer

I grew up with Gran Turismo and, in my humble opinion, Gran Turismo was the best in simulating car handling. But since I learned about BeamNG in 2016, my opinion has changed. BeamNG is simply the best simulation for car handling, it just seems so realistically natural (or naturally realistic) seeing a BeamNG car driving, turning, braking, drifting, changing gears... The party piece, of course, is the crash model of BeamNG and here is where this simulation has literally all other car sims thrown into the last decade. It is such a brutally honest crash model, I would say, that anyone being used to those other car sims will be in for a culture shock once they drive in BeamNG! And don't forget the amazingly realistic damage model of each and every engine component! Edit 1: Honestly, I don't care about licensed content in this sim. The fact that an original universe of maps, car companies, car models and car part companies is being created (and recreated, with every update) is a great indication of uniqueness and differentiation between this sim and all other sims! Edit 2: I'm not talking about Automation cars because they just feel too fake and tinfoily, both in their physics and in their crash model. They seem completely out of place in a sim like BeamNG. The only amazing pieces of that sim are the Automation Race Track and the engine modelling and dyno model. Nothing else.
