Thanks for posting your handful of selected options for under £5K. I would also agree that a Honda Civic might be an option but for me, not a diesel, thanks.

It's fascinating, as I typically source used cars for between £3-5,000 for private clients, so I spend a lot of time perusing Auto Trader like this. A £5,000 budget used to typically get a Swift from a generation later (I sourced a 2015 one for less than that last March), but given that used car prices have gone up so much since then, maybe it is best to get one of the last ones of the first generation. By the way, absolutely love Mark I Kia Cee'ds, they are some of my favourite reasonably priced used cars, they do drive well and tend to be better for dependability than a typical Focus, Astra or Golf, but it does depend on the example, of course.

Wow, thanks! Golf Plus is often overlooked by a decent enough car. I'd 100% avoid the 1.6 diesel if you do lots of short runs and if you get the 2.0 TDI make sure it's been very well serviced - they're not as bulletproof as many think they are.

Sorry ,But I have to disagree about the 2017 Dacia Sandero 1.0 Sce , I purchased a new Sandero 1.0 Sce Ambiance in 2017 it covered 3800 miles the rocker box gasket blew and the Dacia dealer couldn't source a new gasket from their supplier in Romania another owner had been waiting 3 months longer than I had for the same gasket also I found the engine gutless you had to change up to 2nd gear quickly to make it pull better it took miles and miles to warm up trouser leg would keep catching on the trim next to the clutch pedal this trim problem was still evident on the Sandero stepway I test drove in 2020 but that one was a 0.9 Turbo and had better pulling power the boot was a generous size as well .
