I LOVE Design Challenges. When I looked back on drag race history, I noticed just how controversial the results are for many design challenges. Take a look at my picks for the most robbed design challenge wins in drag race history.
Side note: I also wrongly thought Raja won the Paper Ball on Season 3, when it was in fact Manila! Sorry for the lies and deception.

Even with Utica's rather strange presentation of her first two looks, they looked great and that sleeping bag look was one of the best ever made in the show

When you look at critiques about Utica that she was not "fashion presenting" enough with her camp and fun persona for the two first looks AND the fact that Jorgeous won a design challeging by "selling the garment"........ It's clear they value runway presentation TOO MUCH, even more than the look itself. It's called a design challenge, not a modeling or catwalking challenge. Of course, if you sell the garment with the walk and confidence, more power to you, but that shouldn't guarantee you a win. Also, if you walk ugly but the garment is fine, that shouldn't screw you over more than somebody who actually made shit. Just look at the Farm design challenge from season 11. Nina's outfit was not good (it was the same secretary silhouette dress she always delivers made with corn husks), but she used a lot of unconventional material and trie to create something. Vanjie however "made" a skirt, that was a piece of fabric not even lined or hemmed, made an ugly rope top and put some rope on a fascinator. Yes, Nina's walk is atrocious while Vanjie's was fierce, but that shouldn't be the reason to punish somebody, Vanjie's garment was worse

The ball isnt just a design challenge, its a BALL and you have to serve: face, fashion, pose, catwalk... and things like that. Overall you have to be good in many things and not just design and sew something good. Utica served clown mess realness with her walk and thats a fact.

Utica is a camp conceptual queen, it makes sense she would present her looks in a camp conceptual way. She only acts fierce if she feels her looks need it, like the sleeping bag look, she presented it fiercely but still had some camp elements to it like laying down on the runway. It's annoying that in order to win a design challenge a queen has to change herself and her style. If she's camp, let her be camp. It would be a breath of fresh air for a queen that's not "fashion mama werk down boots" to win the ball, and deservedly

Utica and Lineysha Sparx were THE ultimate robbed queens it actually hurt watching. I also remember rooting for Lashauwn Beyond's 'post apopapelyctic' look because it was so amazing and different from everything we have seen, but I guess it can't be called robbed as Sharon's was iconic. But I remember feeling it was kinda underapreciated, specially being sent home the episode after.

Yeah like i saw the writing on the wall in ukvstw for her when she was safe in the snatch game with arguably one of the best runways of the whole show and Ru actively refusing to banter with her and then just being safe again for the girlgroup/rusical thing when she clearly had the second best performance after Marina. Like they wanted my girl out of there bad. I would love to see scarlet on a non Ru judged season because i swear she just has a personal problem with her after as6. Scarlett started out a nightmare dressed like a daydream and then she hit an All-stars and I fell in love. She was absolutely robbed in the design challenge. They tell queens don't be afraid to get ugly and an ultimate pretty girl as the beast from the black lagoon? Fucking phenomenal

I believe Anetra should have won the ball, mainly bc the judges generally put ALOT more emphasis on the created look and much less on the ones brought from home. Therefore it could only be Anetra for me whose creation was just straight up beautiful and jaw dropping. It will always surprise me that Sasha won that over the 3 you mentioned though for sure

I disagree with most of these. I'll give my reasoning: - Scarlet's was during the ball challenge. Her design outfit was stunning yes, but her blue collar look was just ok and her blue jeans look was ugly. Although she had one of the best blue bonanza looks, she had one of the worst blue jeans looks, you can't balance that out. It's like TKB, her Cinderella design and presentation for the last look was incredible, but her blue collar look was one of the ugliest things of the season. There's no way you can win the ball in those conditions. - Alexis' I kinda agree, but this challenge was very wrong to begin with. They factored more the funny part of the challenge, the character they have created, and in that, yes, Alexis fell short. If it was just the design, she should absolutely win. Also, it was that stupid all stars thing of "if you're not in the top you're in the bottom", because she deserved at least a high placement. - Shea's RuPaul recreation was really good, but she wasn't better than Trinity or Shea. If she had done something to the pants, absolutely, but she didn't have the time, so the plain pants were a turnoff. - Akeria's Kennedy look - What's that? What look is that? - Milk's bearded look - this one I agree and disagree. I wouldn't mind Milk winning, because her outfit was original and fashion, but Bianca's and Trinity's were very well constructed, they all looked like looks brought from home. We have to remember that at the time Milk's drag was not so praised on the show, so her not winning makes absolute sense, and in my eyes it wasn't much better than the other looks for it to be a robbery, the top3 looks were all good. - Roxxxy's candy dress I feel the same about Milk's toga party look. Both Roxxxy and Alaska did great for the 3 categories, so I wouldn't mind her winning, but I think Alaska was a tiny bit better on the first two. - I like Jaida's concept for her look at the ball, but the discussion could be made that she didn't modify the balls, just glued them together. But at the same time, so did Gigi, Gigi constructed a dress and glued balls to it to adorn it. Both winning would be fine by me. I actually prefer Jaida because of her second look, the sport one, it's more different and creates a more interesting package for a ball About Angeria and Nymphia I completely agree.

My 2 cents: 9. Loved Acid Betty's look of course, but I do believe Kim Chi had the upper hand, especially considering the material she had to use (wigs). 8. This whole challenge was chaotic, but I agree that Misstress killed it and should've won. 7.Glueing things to a corset CAN win you a challenge, as long as nobody does anything better, which is not the case here, because Heidi ATE. She should've won. 6. The AS3 ball was also a confusing mess. Raja should've been on top, especially because the look Bebe wore reminded me of those plastic strip curtains we find in industrial freezers. And it was pretty fucked up of Bebe to kick out Raja. lol 5. I honestly liked Plastique's look, but I would've been fine if Scarlett had won. 4. Monique Heart's design was amazing and should've won. Mayhem's look was fine. 3. IT BAFFLES ME TO THIS DAY LINEYSHA SPARKS DIDN'T WIN THAT CHALLENGE! AAAAAAGH!!!! 2. Jorgeous should not have won this fucking challenge. I wanted to riot and set something on fire when I watched that episode. 1. Although I do think Utica had the best look of the evening, when considered all 3 pieces and presentation, I could se Gottmik coming out on top. Personally, Utica's silly faces and funny walk cheapened the looks and worked against her. If she had put on a fierce Naomi Campbell walk, she would've won.

Utica’s sleeping bag look has to be one of the best looks in the history of drag race, if not the single greatest. Same goes for lineysha’s wallpaper dress. (Though it’s not the BEST, it’s one of the best, truly amazing)

Acid Betty was such an underrated queen that was mostly ignored by fans and production. Tbh, the fawning over Sasha Colby was tiring throughout season 15 and her ball win (and the interview challenge) was one of the riggory she didn't need. Heidi should've been in the top (even though I didn't like her last look, proportion was weird).

Mik literally just sewed straps together and called it an outfit whilst Utica actually listened to the prompt and made an actual outfit. and since it’s the only prompt in this particular challenge where the queens had to physically make their own looks, Utica shouldve gotten more points for it and should’ve won

I don't agree that Mistress deserved to win over Sasha. Mistress' first look was a bodysuit with quotes pasted on it - very amateur-looking. Her second look, although great concept, had visible fitting issues . Finally, the look she made looked great, but was being pulled too much by the stones at the bottom. Sasha on the other hand, had a good first look, great second look, and her third look, although somewhat simple, looked amazing on stage. Overall, Sasha presented the best package. However, I think Anetra should have won it for her third look alone.

I don’t think Scarlet should’ve won the monster ball, Ra’jah should’ve. Scarlet’s final look had some technical flaws so I can see the argument for her being high instead but Ra’jah’s MILTF was creative and greatly executed

It was a ball to but even Pythia's other 2 runways were my favorites of each category, one of the biggest robberies in any ball/design challenge and we just ignore it cuz overseas....

Yeah like to this point I can’t accept any design look presented on the runway as being better than Utica’s Moncler inspired sleeping bag look. The reference, the whimsy, the presentation, the total package of how she styled the look. It was inarguably FLAWLESS… and she should’ve won. Not an opinion, straight fact… she won. I love Gottmik but Utica won.

To me, Gottmik’s winning over Utica is doubly infuriating because her final design look is a perfect example of relying on body. Sure, Mik has a great figure and there’s nothing wrong with showing it off onstage, but… imagine for a minute if someone like Madame LaQueer had worn that exact combination of rags on the runway. Not only would the judges have torn her a new one, you know, to go with her rags, but the shortcomings of that outfit would have been blatantly visible.

Manilla won the money ball, not Raja. Raja, in fact, didn't win any ball on Rupaul's history, only the cake and the christimas design challenges (that envolves sewing and fashion, but were not the two balls on that season). The other challenge she won on her season was singing live, and on All Stars 7, she won the public speech and the chirstimas acting challenge.

I pretty much stopped watching drag race when Utica didn't win that ball. Not even trying to be dramatic or anything, it's just true. RuPaul may have been forced to have trans contestants on his show (for the better), and walk back several wack comments over the years, but it's obvious they and the production still cling to their rigid definition of drag. They still heavily favor the hyper feminine, mainstream-palatable, "fashion mama werk down boots" aesthetic (as another commenter put it), and won't genuinely celebrate anything else. I want to see the best drag has to offer, but I've seen so many queens at this point be snubbed because they don't do drag the same way Ru does it. Shoutouts to Lineysha as well, though. We can only guess why production didn't care about her- probably the language barrier- but she didn't get her full recognition either.

Honestly scarlet could be on this list twice lol. Her blue ball extravaganza gown in as6 was so stunning and i do also think her first look was stronger than rajah's. Like i would have been fine with rajah winning, but scarlet just being safe while Eureka was in the top is criminal to me.

I think it is about personal taste. A lot of your choices are quite crafty. Esp the dollar bills look and playing card look. They were too crafty. And no way Acid Betty can be compared to Raja's original look. Acid's look was misshapen. I enjoyed Mo's look, however there were many details missing. The pink in-line looked like cardboard, the back of the corset looked unfinished

I think the monster ball win is always so contested. I think Nina, Plastique, Rajah and Scarlet all ate uppp but i think rajahs outfit overall were my favourites. Her wicked inspired look was so cute and her design look was perfectly constructed
