As a equestrian I can confirm that this is satisfying because I do this daily. And a little tip is when your horse is shedding use a charcoal block it gets the job done and gives your horse a nice massage you can get them online or a tack store/horse store! I have one my self and it works awesome and gets all the old dirt and dust out and also all the dead hairs !.

Why is it neccessary to shower a horse? Aside for medical reasons, I thought a good brush and a dustbath is enough. Maybe every once in a while a nice bath in a lake, or warm summer rain. Horses a so delicate in so many ways, I am just asking... 😅

I’m curious and never had this answered before, but what is that called that goes on the horse’s hooves? Is it kind of like nail polish for them to protect their hooves? Is it to moisten them to keep them healthy?
@phrog734
@phrog734 2 жыл бұрын
It's called hoof oil and can be liquid (like like shown in the video) or solid. It helps keep the hoof healthy and strong and may contain things like vegetable and cod liver oil to maintain hoof health and leave a shine on the hoof for aesthetic :). That's about as far as my knowledge extends hope this helps!

One donut probably isn’t going to hurt your horse, but its better to stick with safer treat options. Horses consuming baked goods /bread products may put them at risk of the dough forming a blockage in their gastrointestinal system which could cause colic.

does anyone else remember when it was completely unacceptable to use a metal curry on a horse 😅 even just a rubber curry on their legs or face would get you a talking to from the pony club DC and now we're using hacksaw blades to de-shed? i would never, not even for my ultra hairy minis edit: i just got to the farrier part and omfg. i am actually losing my mind, who tf taught them to sand the horse's hoof wall like that, with a power tool as well???? that horse's hoof is completely fucked.
@andreabyrne6527
@andreabyrne6527 2 жыл бұрын
The shedding blade on the horses main body is actually quite safe, just not on boney structures where the skin is more sensitive and thinner like face and legs. It's not used like a saw (in a sawing action) otherwise that'd hurt everybody ;)
@jermajayjay1092
@jermajayjay1092 2 жыл бұрын
@@andreabyrne6527 obviously it's not actually sawing their body open, but it's still not comfortable for them. skin isn't thinner anywhere, by the way, there's just a less thick layer of fat, or tendons near the surface of their body.
@andreabyrne6527
@andreabyrne6527 2 жыл бұрын
@@jermajayjay1092 Sorry that's kind of what I meant by the 'boney' structures where surface skin is closer to the bone underneath. A proper shedding blade should cause no discomfort. If it's scratching the skin underneath their hair (Causing a scratch/allergy like response/raising of the skin) or they are uncomfortable then the use of the blade should halted immediately. For most horses it's a pretty safe alternative to plastic/rubber curries that may not truly remove the shedding undercoat. It generally should be causing any sort of pain.
@jermajayjay1092
@jermajayjay1092 2 жыл бұрын
@@andreabyrne6527 i don't see how a hacksaw blade is a proper shedding blade lmao. a rubber curry with long prongs is going to get out undercoat much better than a blade that runs over the top of the coat edit: and if you really want to use something over the top of their coats, then there are rubber blocks that are much kinder on their skin. no reason to use a blade IMO
@andreabyrne6527
@andreabyrne6527 2 жыл бұрын
@@jermajayjay1092 All good rubber is fine. For me it just isn't as effective to get that thick undercoat out. Just feels like ur spookin at the word 'hacksaw', its the same blade found on a normal shedding blade too. No difference really besides design hold and shape. My fave is sometimes the 'slick n easy' shedding block but it gets worn out really quickly (So you have to buy multiple over the shedding season) and can smell too haha ;)
