He didn’t tell Robin the true history because all he would be telling is his summary of all the information and the conclusions he came to. He wouldn’t be telling her the true history word for word. That’s why she chose not to hear it. It’s kinda like would you rather someone give you a summary of the worlds most awesome movie or would you rather watch it yourself?

Also, Rayleigh did say at the end of the day they were just pirates unlike Robin who is a actual scholar so their interpretations might differ on parts of it so best for her to experience everything herself and come to a conclusion.
@shaneiles5672

Yea this but also the way he words it tells me that some amount of the history can be interpreted in different ways and so telling her rogers interpretation would bias her and prevent her from coming to her personal as well as symbolically Ohara’s conclusion which is likely to be different considering the background pirate/scholars and the technique hearing voice/translations. Also based on the conclusion it sounded like there’s expected “answer” or response which could also be many things which if you weren’t strong enough cuz you cut corners and got the story at the half way point or simply the world wasn’t ready then your “answer” may be to put your faith on the next generation to clap the Celestial cheeks which is seemingly what roger chose and I guess shanks too kinda sorta.

You misunderstood the dialogue between Rayleigh and Robin. Rayleigh suggests that he WILL tell her if she wants, it's just that if she goes and figures it out herself, she will find DIFFERENT answers. Telling her now would ruin her perspective and a new possible discovery in the future.

I wouldn't say "misunderstood" since I'm not 100% sure this interpretation is correct. But I do agree. Although, iirc, Rayleigh says she MIGHT come to a different conclusion, not that she definitely will.

@MrRanosama This moment fails from a writing standpoint if her conclusion doesn't differ from Rayleighs in the end. It has to be. Otherwise, Rayleigh ends up looking like a jackass, and Oda creates one of the biggest blunders in his series.

@@Joseph_Siri Not really. It's the exact same as Luffy refusing to hear what/where the One Piece is or if it really exists. Robin going out and finding out herself is important, and it's more a note on how you should do your own research, rather than just read and regurgitate what someone else has read or written. @@RyoCaliente >it's more a note on how you should do your own research, rather than just read and regurgitate what someone else has read or written That doesn't make sense because Robin, and Roger, got their information from stuff that was written long time ago and didn't experience the actual events firsthand lol. And you are literally agreeing with the point while somehow trying to disagree with it. Ray even suggests that perhaps Roger pirates and Ohara scholars rushed through this and that perhaps Robin can come to a different conclusion.

Usually? You mean, there was never a moemnt in the story before, where he lost? Yes. Exactly. that's why he feels despair. Because he lost and he wants to be able to protect his friends. It's really that simple. So no, it's not like you said "he's not a charachter that usually" no. One Piece isn't a simple story like that. To correct you, Luffy is a charachter that WILL fall into despair if he looses his crewmates because of himself. That is exactly the type of charachter Luffy is and I think you know exactly what scene comes to mind regaring a certain someone else that I can't name yet as it would spoil it.

I had a completely different interpretation of the Robin and Ray scene. Ray says that even if he tells them the true history: 1: There’s nothing they can do with that information, as they are now. They are too weak, and too naive to make use of the information. 2: He wants Robin to come to her own conclusion on the history, implying it may be interpreted differently by different people. We also have to remember that Robin wants to continue to travel with the straw hats on to fulfill her dream. If she got the spoilers, her dream would be fulfilled and she would have no reason to travel/do research. It’s the same for Luffy, who’s rejects hearing the truth about he One Piece, as it would ruin the adventure.

What Rayleigh basically said to Robin was "Do you want to hear our conclusions or make your own?" You have to consider that she is a historian, she would be way more interested to continue unearthing the raw data and figuring out for herself, as she was taught in O'hara. This is not even considering the fact that as he said, Roger could not read the tablets, he just heard voices tell him things. They can't confirm it was the same.

I think a part of the Robin/Rayleigh scene that is overlooked is: She gets confirmation that she is on the right path. She knows that if she continues this journey, if they find the One Piece, then she WILL learn the true history. Of course she wants to know it, and she could've asked Rayleigh to tell her right then, but then what does she do with her life? For the first time in her life, she has found the will and drive to live, the comfort of a tree to call home, and now she just found out that if she continues on this journey, if she stays with this tree, her dream will come true. I think it shows a lot of character growth, because pre-enies lobby Robin would almost certainly have asked Rayleigh to tell her. But now that she is home, she has found that there are more important things.

I think another angle for Robin's thing is that, for Robin, it's super important for her as an archeologist to learn about these things for herself! After Water 7/Ennies Lobby and Robin regaining her will to live, while it sucks for us that wanna know, it's important to her that she earns it herself. There's less satisfaction if Rayleigh just tells her! Would she have really achieved her dream if she took a short cut?
@JoshTheValiant
@JoshTheValiant 8 ай бұрын
For clarity, Rayleigh didn't read Hachi's mind. He started to ask what was going on, and then looked around the room and went "Oh, I got it." He just surmised the situation from all the evidence of combat and who was fighting and who was hurt. More of a "been there, done that" attitude, less mystic mystery. Got enough of that elsewhere in the story atm.

So many things are introduced in this arc that aren't explored until later! In a way, it's like Jaya or Long Ring Long Land, where it's more a springboard onto what comes next. It's a litlle arc that pretty much only gives you questions and no answers. But don't doubt all your predictions yet! You made a couple of very interesting ones. Not going to say how much of them were correct, of course. XD I think that when it comes to stakes, in One Piece it's not generally about who lives or who dies. (Aren't those kind of boring stakes anyway? At least just to have as a general thing? Maybe that's just me.) It's about the truth, the way the world works, what really happened, and how things will change, if and how the Strawhats will effect change. What Rayleigh tells Robin is basically that he and Roger weren't able to do anything with what they found, and I think there has to be a really good reason for that. And that reason is also why it might not be meaningful for Robin to hear about it at the point where she is now. At least that's how it sounded to me. I still don't know what it is, mind! It just sounded that the discovery itself, not just being told about it, may be important. (Archipelago stresses the third syllable, PE, and has a short a. Always thought it was a more common word, and then I realised it's because I grew up in one, so it was one of the first English words I learned, lol.) Oh yeah, when Luffy loses all of his crew, it's HARROWING. Luffy has failed, his crew was taken from him and he couldn't do anything about it. These are the kind of stakes that I like! If they were dead, that would just be the end of it, but now there are so many things that could happen. It was so long ago these chapters were released, but yeah, I was reading weekly and it was SHOCKING. And every new chapter only felt frustrating for a while, because I wanted to know everything now, now, now! Which is why I usually take breaks and save up chapters because otherwise I just get annoyed, lol. I would love to hear a discussion with you three, it would be so much fun! Maybe you'd want to finish Amazon Lily first. It's another more transitional arc which I personally like a lot now. And the one after is fairly long. Although I think you're probably going to want ot have another after the third arc from now (there are two more after Amazon Lily in this saga, not even saying what they're called), if I were to guess.

Thank you for the very thoughtful comment. It’s nice to see your take on all this. I will say to me there is no stake higher than the one of mortality, it’s almost mandatory for me in books (doesn’t mean surprise kills either, just the handling of death, as it’s a universal experience), and I’ve had to adjust that when reading most manga

@@DudesTalkingManga Thank you! I hope I'm not coming off as argumentative. I just love hearing your thoughts and it makes me want to get into the conversation, lol. I'm in complete agreement with you on the handling of death. That is very important to me too. But I think that it's that for me, the risk of death in and of itself is not important, if that makes sense? Something that I think is actually a point in One Piece is that once you've dedicated yourself to your dream, you've offered up your life as well. Not that everyone does this, but many characters have these moments where they make it clear that they know they might die at any point on their journey. All that will mean is that they had to stop earlier than they had planned, but they are still doing exactly what they wanted. As if they've already died, or faced death, in one sense. It's the choice to be on the path you are on that's important. (I think those are the characters who manage to face death with a smile on their faces.) When Zoro says that when he dedicated himself to the sword, he "threw away", or maybe rather "let go of" his life. I think it's related to the Buddhist sense of non-attachement, which is pretty strong in both Zoro and Luffy. I'm no expert in Buddhism though, it's just an impression I have! But I think this is something that is in the foundation of how One Piece is written. At that point, being dead or alive sort of loses significance. In a sense, maybe to me it's mainly about how characters think about death than whether they actually die? All right, I'll stop rambling now, lol.

To answer your last question about how long the wait was at the time here is a personal story : This was exactly the time that I first caught up to the french volume publication of One Piece. A friend of mine was lending me the volumes which would be released roughly every 2 months (we did not really read scans at the time). Volume 53 took 3 months and I remember my friend talking everyday at school about how much he was waiting for volume 53. To the point that he could not help himself spoiling things for me because he had this extreme need to talk about One Piece. EDIT : I actually took my revenge on the spoiling thing because I then went to the scans and pretty much spoiled all of Impel Down / Marineford to him 😅

With time and experience comes new perspectives just like we see with how the crew look at Fishmen during this arc versus their perspectives after the Arlong Park arc. Their expanded knowledge allows them to take in a fuller picture.

I enjoy your videos because you're making the journey to uncover the history of this world and coming to your own conclusions as you experience it. Perhaps rendering new insight or perspective, and gaining the context and the clues as you go, rather than letting someone who already knows everything dispense the knowledge to you through their truncated, personal perspective.

One thing that I always come back to this arc for is the fact that it adds context for the scope of the one piece pirate world and the introduction of a class of pirates on the same level of our crew with their own history and stories only for them to all proceed to get stomped by the Navy really made the world feel both more real and more dangerous than it previously did.

Man... this feels kinda nostalgic to me. When I started reading One Piece and caught up, the latest chapter was 525, and you're almost there! What's coming is so good in every sense. Also, I remember crying my eyes out at the final chapters of Sabaody... damn, that was something. I still cry if I reread or rewatch those scenes, even knowing what's to come. It's great stuff!

With the Robin and Ray thing. Something I had always accepted was that no one really mentions but of the crew Robin is only second to Luffy in sense for and love for adventure. When she joined the crew she made mention in Skypeia something along the lines of “so this is what an adventure can be.” I think after joining the straw hats she is really opening up and learning things that she herself might like or hate whereas the life she lived before she didn’t have the time or freedom to think about that stuff while always looking over her shoulder.

I‘m one of the „old“ fans who read the Manga in real time so back in the day I thought I had to wait like 3 days for a complete conclusion of this arc, yet it turned out to be 2 full years. 😉 On the matter with the One Piece as such: I guess it’s no spoiler to tell you that to this day it’s not clear what the One Piece really is, BUT Oda himself told an interviewer that he hates stories where the payoff at the end is an emotion like the friends you made along the way, yaddayadda. He clearly said that he doesn’t create characters and sends them on a journey that lasts about three decades of his own life just for them to end up empty handed. So you can bet your life on it that the One Piece is real and that it‘s an object or revelation of some sort that will clearly end all plotstrings for good. One thing you should bare in mind though: You‘re reading this in a subjectively fast pace and for you any mention of the One Piece may be nothing too special - yet when you read a chapter per week for 25yrs you get these moments very rarely so they’re actually super special! We’re currently close to chapter 1100 and the One Piece as such has been mentioned.. I‘d say not even 10 times during the whole journey. That’s how special these scenes are. 👍 Looking forward to your jaw dropping when you soon find out what we all already know! Have fun and stay clear of all spoilers! 🤞

Me at the start of this video: H'ooooookay, here we go locked in for this one. Jimmy we got you man ❤MUCH SUPPORT❤ Trust me when I say this when consuming one piece it is like a five-course meal you can't jump to Desert three steps ahead of everybody. If Robin had gotten that info it could have changed everything for everyone. Even Luffy's adventure, which as he said he doesn't want a boring adventure. Being past the 1000 chapter mark is hard sometimes to explain things without spoiling. You feel like a veteran watching new recruits starting out. 100% nope Oda has claimed that it is a physical thing and that he hates that trope.

I think you failed to understand how robin changed with the strawhats. That's why she thought about them when Rayleigh offered to tell the whole truth. This became part of her journey just as the one piece is part of luffy's. She is not willing to sacrifice everything to get the truth anymore, and uncovering the void century like this would sacrifice her role with her found family

First time I've heard someone feel this way about the Rayleigh stuff. I think it makes sense for Robin and Luffy to just want to discover the world/poneglyphs on their own. And yup I do highly recommend this as a watch. It's a top 3 anime arc cus its just so well paced and you just want to keep watching more to know what happens. And it just shows the terrifying power of Kizaru and the Pacifistas as they decimate the worst generation and the Straw hats.

Everyone else is already commenting on the robin Rayleigh thing lol, so ill add that also even though some of the info was "assumed" or already known, it was still new info the the crew as we found it out from other perspectives. This would have been one of the only times they couldve found this stuff out in a natural way

You came away from that Robin-Ray scene with a rather misplaced focused on getting the info as oppose to understanding what Ray said and what that implies for the whole plot. Will of D, Void Century, Ancient Kingdom etc... are all connected to the main plot of One Piece. Ray saying that Robin might reach a different conclusion, for the first time in the series, implies that truth is not so straight-forward and will be up to interpretation. Ray is saying that Robin, through her own journey, would be able to get the pieces and come to her own conclusion as opposed to him giving her his and Roger's conclusion.
