that was the goal. From what i've read the Vietnamese believe that ppl must die in their country or their souls wander and cry out. that's what the ghost tapes are meant to replicate.

My grandmother used to tell me alot about the war, she told me that when they heard the bomb (B-52) everybody ran as fast as they could to the bunker, she did survived after many bombing wave from the US army but my grandmother's aunt died in the bunker with the unborned child. That is one of her stories, there are many more.

At least we are living in an era of Peace, yes I know it is ironic I say that while Ukraine is getting invaded and Chinese tensions with Taiwan are getting stronger but my point is that at least nowadays, there are way fewer wars and less people suffering than before, though the sad truth is that no matter how peaceful the world is, there will always be war

I remember learning about this job that was a thing in Vietnam during the 2 Indochinese wars, there would be someone who would come to villages or any places where there are reported casualties there and collect the corpses to bury them later. there's a story when one of these corpse collectors came to a recently massacred village, they found a baby still trying to breastfeed on his mother, even though his mother was dead. this story still haunts me even till today.

My father is a retired US Navy Gunner's Mate, served from 72-93, retired as a Chief Petty Officer. I was born in '02, and for my entire life he has never discussed combat, with me or anyone else. Knowing that he served in Vietnam, and now hearing some of this, I know now why he chooses not to discuss combat. I wouldn't want to either.

My grandfather who has recently passed away in 2017 served in the vietnamese rebellious force. He and his closest friend was a Ground Canon operator used specifically to take down B52 bombers. Everything was fairly fine, everyone was trying their best but then...the bombs are coming and will reach his path in no time, his friend keep saying that they wouldnt make it out of their alive, but still tried his best to find something to shelter him and my gramps from what is coming "Đăng, get over here, quick, HURRY". In shock, my gramps runned his fastest to the shelter, trying to say something to his friend, but it was too late. The bombs hit Huệ instead, his guts were everywhere and my gramps was in shock and still think of it till this day. War is a terrible thing and traumatizes you no matter what side you are on.

My grandfather served in 1968 - 1969. He was stationed in the mountains as a part of the 228 radio communications battalion. He would also run convoys along the villages and dirt roads up in those mountains. He always said that the scariest part about Vietnam is how quiet it would get, because they all knew that an attack would follow suit.

Couple things: The sound of the B-52 is interesting... My first wife's dad did a tour in the infantry in Vietnam. He said one time they were somewhere near Cambodia and had stopped on the side of a mountain to eat lunch. All of a sudden they started hearing explosions across the valley, and realized it was bombs. He said he looked up and saw B-52's like little dots in the sky... He said they never heard the planes or knew they were there until the bombs started hitting the ground and exploding. He also stated it seemed like it rained bombs forever. One of my dad's friends... Actually a buddy of dad's older brother did 2 or 3 tours over there. He kept volunteering to go back. Anyway... He said they called in the C-47 with all the miniguns. Larry told dad that during daylight runs there was so much ammo being fired from those planes that you could see the bullets coming down like black raindrops... And at night, with every 5th round being a tracer, it looked like weird snaking laser beams coming down. They called it "Puff the Magic Dragon." And it could put one bullet in every square inch of a football field in one pass. It literally mowed down jungle vegetation.

I was in a unit within a mile of Rolling Thunder. Nobody knew we were there, so no warning. Vietnam at that time was virgin jungle with huge trees. You felt the bomb internally more than the sound. The trees near the bombs were knocked down, crisscrossing because of the many bombs and blast directions. These huge trees would be stacked like matchsticks and the terrain was almost impassable. Standing on a tree trunk near the top of the pile could be 40 feet above the ground. Some of the enemy in the the blast area were torn apart by wood splinters, some as big as a spear. It was rare to find one alive. But the tigers ate well. Away from the coasts and cities, in jungle areas, gunfire and especially artillery would start the tigers roaring. Except for leave and hospital, 1967-1972. 60% disability.

The siege of Con Thien September through October 1967 was trench warfare artillery duel. The North Vietnamese arty had a longer reach. US Army US Marine Corps artillery was outgunned. As I understand, the man behind the arranging of how we use, our artillery was the late Robert McFarland in the Reagan administration as a Marine lieutenant colonel. every night Marines watch the thousands of North Vietnamese soldiers migrate towards the Hoh Chi Minh trail.
