The level played at 18:43 is totally a remake of a level from Donkey Kong Country 2. I believe it is the 4th level or so in that game. In fact, knowing this may have given him a hint as to where the exit was and he may have won.

It's the second level. The red coins were the KONG-tokens, the door the area you get to after doing one of the bonus levels. Behind that door there would have been a DK coin.
