We have visited this museum with my wife in January. Such a hidden jem!

Thank you, Good Girl, for posting this. I was there in the summer of 1976! I know, I know, I'm old. I traveled throughout Europe that summer, hiking, taking the trains (thanks, Interrail pass!), sleeping at the hostels (or in parks when the hostels were full), and going to a lot of museums. I remember standing in front of that self-portrait by Durer, it was so captivating. I also remember standing in front of Altdorfer's "Victory of Alexander the Great." Wow, the detail, so amazing; and his "Susanna Bathing." Strange, to me, I don't recall any of the Impressionists' or post-Impressionists' paintings. Perhaps they were later acquisitions? I don't know (it could be my age). But, what memories! As you say, it is too important a museum and should be mentioned more often. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your comment and sharing it!❤️ I truly believe that traveling is very important, because we learn new things, meet new people and those sweet memories stay with us forever. Probably, they have a temporary exhibition of Impressionists. Sometimes museums have 10 times bigger collection of artworks in their storages and just showing some parts of it once in a while. It is very sad for art lovers.

The Van Gogh painting , trees in the foreground.. towards the end of your video is amazing. At the end He finally figured out the power of exaggerations.

I like this museum a lot! Also, this place is underestimated and not so crowded. You can spend as much time as you want in front of Da Vinci’s painting ☺️.

There are way more artworks by Rubens, it was difficult to show all of them in one video.

Hello Julia. Thank you very much for this very nice video. I have not had the privilege to visit Germany yet but is on my list for the next year. You are right about how underestimated the great German museums are. I have been reading/studying European art history for well over 30 years and I noticed a pattern within the English-speaking world. For the majority of British and American academics, the only countries worth mentioning on artistic matters are France and Italy. This ridiculous and unexcusable attitude is even more so since the creation of the Internet which enables us to visit museums without leaving our homes. I will post another comment about the paintings you showed us. Regards. Claudio

Thank you, Claudio! I agree with you, there are many underestimated places or things in this world that should be discovered but sometimes people prefer to follow popular attractions or top touristic places. For sure, Paris and Florence are amazing and noone can compete with them but at the same time we should be open to new places and experiences as well.

@@goodgirlart Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, I agree with you 100%, that is why, this year, I am planning to visit your beautiful city (Vienna) and Madrid. Both cities are home to some of the most magnificent art museums in Europe (The KHM, the Belvedere and El Prado). Regards.
