It's really interesting that a wargame which relies on people doing the boring stuff can be so successful, because like these interviews make clear, it's actually more fun for some that they are helping others, rather than just being a hero on the frontline.

It is also really healthy to switch roles. Sometimes after being constantly shelled and gassed, a little chill truck ride isn't so bad.

I mean support roles in games are very often quite popular and thats when they are commonly limited to just the single task of healing. Expand the sorts of support activities people can do, and have that aspect itself be a team effort with other supports and it absolutely makes sense to me that it has it's fans in abundance.

And keep in mind the video was focusing on only one "half" of the game, the actual war part is also huge and deep. Also, the there are no and will be no microtransactions for the game, so the game doesn't have any additional hidden costs. There are no stats, no KDA, no leveling, no actual rules (except "no teamkilling") it's just you interacting with the game :)

If you choose to join us - welcome! If not - enjoy the show! TL;DR = The game is great and the community is 95% exceptional (no one likes the assholes anyways). In 3.5yrs I have at most a handful of actually bad social experiences and I don't even remember them. The game does NOT respect your IRL time and is best played with other people as it exponentially decreases the time required to do things. Introverted? Don't worry I was too. This community is pretty easy to jump into just say you're new and literally don't know what tf is going on and would like to learn logi and frontlines and lots of ppl will jump in to help.

Foxhole really lends itself to the vox pop interview style b/c voice chat use is common and normalized. It's also full of nerds who can't wait to talk about it with anyone who will listen lol. Good call on using interviews to explain the building/logi side of the game since those gameplay loops are a bit too slow and grindy to produce interesting or meaningful footage without a ton of time spent on recording and editing. Even then, you don't really get the significance or the draw of those roles w/o hearing from players that love to take them on.
@Sargos.gaming
@Sargos.gaming 27 күн бұрын
When you think about it, these days not many games have general (world) chat and in most games it's impossible just to approach someone and just start up a conversation. Which is strange, because this is exactly how you build up a community. The challenge now is to somehow distribute this video to non Foxhole players :D Make them see how great Foxhole is

@@Sargos.gaming It's a hard game to promote tbh, but it has strong niche appeal. It's the kind of game where you either quit after a couple dozen hours or you get hooked and rack up thousands. I started playing in 2018 and tho there have been population spikes during major updates and promo campaigns, I've mostly seen slow and gradual growth that struggles to surpass the 4k daily active players mark. Still, it's one of the best games I've ever played and definitely the best MMO I've invested my time in. Siege Camp pretty much invented a new sub-genre when they made Foxhole and it's yet to see any direct competition.

I lost count on how many times we close to running out of shirts, medical stuff, or weapons and ammo on the front line. On the brink of defeat, overwhelmed by the enemy's number. But then, a group of logiman starts pouring in supplies and we turned the table around. We love logiman

i pulled multiple 12 hhour sessions in early Foxhole (before world map, when wars were only a single map) just driving trucks. It was great, i came up w a lil shorthand syntax to let officers what was getting delivered where and when. I probably spent 30 or 40 hours on that match and didnt shoot at an enemy at all. One of the most unique gaming experiences anyone could ever participate in. Foxhole is such a good game. Also important to mention just how social it is, I would say 80% of players have voice chat, it's playerbase is also quite a bit older, I would love to see stats for this but to hazard a guess the demographic is late 20's 30's +.

Since this video was an attempt to entice you to come and play ;) Foxhole has one server for the WHOLE world, and you might meet anyone from anywhere at any time. One of the reasons i really like Foxhole, we all come together in one or the other faction and cooperate to win the war. ASEAN (Flimsy Owl's clan) is a South Eastern Asian clan with tons of people, and they are really big and active, and they really contribute to the Warden faction, they carved a name for themselves.

Wow, this sounds pretty damn cool. Hearing them talk about it reminds me of an old delta force game i used to play a lot that had a healing mechanic. A teammate goes down and you can revive them, n often you'd hv to fight your way to them. They really did it well and it was one of my fav aspects of the game, that feeling of helping. You don't really see games pursue that sort of thing. A dif kind of hero
@Sargos.gaming

Yes sadly, nowadays everything revolves around YOU being the center of attention, you being the hero. Like there is no real value of helping another being. The social aspect of Foxhole really does contribute to the weight of the 'use value' of logistics in this game. Overstocking on only one type or of lower quality equipment is detrimental, as it forces other players to constrict their tactics. Hence why you need to communicate with other players based on the material situation on the front.

9:00 What this guy is saying reminds me a lot of my experiences with real life reenactment battles. Yes its the combatants on the field bringing in the audience, people are there to watch a battle after all, but its the support teams on the field who are the real MVPs, your medics and water-bringers are viewed as literal angels on the field. When it comes to video games, support roles are usually viewed as pretty unessential in most cases, you can respawn with all your gear and get back into the fight so what point is there in a logistics support role? But games like this show not only that it can be fun to play the support role but that it can actually be made as an essential part of the gameplay loop even for frontline players. And not only that, but having real players on the frontlines needing your support can actually make the support role feel a lot more fulfilling too. Like a lot of the interviewees said, its knowing that the stuff you produced is actually going somewhere, compared to something like Factorio where there's no _real_ demand for anything you produce.

I've actually researched about that. They aren't civilians, not conscientious objectors, they are non-combative military personnel. The difference is that non-combatives get basic training with weapons but can be called to the front lines at any moment. Even as a logi backline, you sometimes take a weapon and go fight the partisans.

I just really wish it was first person. whenever I drive logi, I eventually crash into stuff due to how short range you can see. I just wish I could see ahead better and first person is more immersive. I know the counter argument would be how combat would be easier, but honestly I think you could make that chance based too. and using fog of war stuff.

Foxhole is probably the one true MMO among all the wow clones. One of the original ideas for the genre was making a world, and there have been some failed attempts to replicate stuff like ecosystems or supply and demand. What most of them failed at, is the player role in it, leaning too much on the power fantasy of DnD. Foxhole is the only online game that is fine with the player being just a soldier in a war.

I bought this game 2 days ago. Already racked 18 hours playing logi exclusively. My clan moved 5 trains filled with supplies from heartland to frontline in some 2 hours. You just sit there and drive them....still the best shit I did in a long time.

One of the people who i talked to said: "It's one thing to give a gift to your self, but a whole another thing to give a gift to someone else", it feels different, more rewarding and satisfying. Yes, you are just driving a train, but you know that you are helping the people on the front lines. I'd go so far as to say, that THAT is something we are missing in real life, sure we know we are cogs, but we have no sense of contribution, there is no clear goal.

This is the fact that games avoid, they avoid the ammo, the food, the water, the fuel, the beds yet they make a game where you lead an army. Usually it's just a bar called "attrition" which is just a lazy solution. Foxhole does this best, it's a hassle to move equipment long distances, let alone produce it from scratch, but it does add value.
