had mine late 90's as a kid, bought it with my own saved money, lost it when swimming with my dad in the river, my dad found it again on the bottom on the same spot 7 days later, it was still working a couple of years later, a great memory of that watch

Just bought one of these. Such value for money! Even in 2022. I went from a G-Shock, to an Apple Watch and the Apple Watch recently died a horrible death after not even 2 years. But now I’m just looking for something that’s smaller and simpler. I love the simplicity and retro chic of these. Superior to the W91 in almost every way in my opinion.

@@Us3d2b1 Yes- I bought one, I think after seeing your comment- very happy with it [just bought another]. Not only has a 24 hr stopwatch and 24 hour countdown timer, but excellent backlight AND, displays the time when in stopwatch mode, a feature that even many G-shocks lack.

This is my everyday watch. It's really robustand has the electro-luminescent light which is much better than the faint light on the F91. It's also great for when I'm reffing sports games. I recommend it!

Brilliant thanks for sharing! This was my go-to during Lockdown 1 when I was working through it, but sadly, despite how much I love it, it gets worn very rarely now due to all my G Shocks and Duro.

Good review. Had mine about 8 months, bought on a retro whim from Argos as I use mechanical automatic and quartz analogue watches mostly (some date back to the 70s), but I'm wearing it at the moment and have been all through this spell of hot weather because I don't sweat up underneath the strap as much in comparison to my other watches' straps, which is another plus point for the W-86.

Just dug one of these great little watches out of my drawer after I realised that the alarm wasn’t going off anymore. It must have been beeping in there 8 years plus! Bought 4 batteries from amazon for £2.60........that’s 60p cost over 8 years, pretty sweet. I’m pretty sure I got my son this watch over ten years ago, though. So much for me always going for Tough Solar G Shocks, these little gems are so economical! Easy to change the battery, too.

Awesome pal! Yes I have several G Shocks with solar and multiband, yet I always come back to this W-86. It was a gift from my wife and I’ve since upgraded the strap to the “perfect” CA-53W rubber strap.

Yes it is, I have one and I think it's better than the F91W. Backlight is great. Just a basic watch but it gets the job done.

Plus points for the illumination and water resistance, but all digital watches should have a countdown timer, so points off for that lack.

Yes this is an issue across a number of the low cost Casios. Not sure why it was never a default feature on all modules 🤔 Maybe there was/is a reason it’s not included.

IiI sold my Rolex GMT Master for more than £5,000 a few months ago and have been looking for a replacement. I found it with the Casio W-86 for £16.99 at Argos and I wouldn’t swop them. The W-86 is so practical and comfortable, I use it for two main functions which the Rolex could never perform; time checks throughout the night in the dark and timing my Saturday morning parkrun. I also use the hourly bleep and the alarm. The Rolex could never equal any of that with the only difference being the dual time display. The Casio keeps excellent time, I had to reset the GMT Master every month. No comparison!

Just after buying this watch. £13 argos. Perfect fit on my wrist on hole 6 so loop is at end of strap. El back light much better than my f91. Great review.

This is my everyday watch at the moment. I also have a SGW100-2B Pros: lightweight, easy to use, face very good at hiding scratches and not having them interfere with time-reading, watch is stylish as 90's or sorta cyberpunkish, the illumination is excellent, strap is very good.. light and comfy, swimming and bank diving no problems at all, very cheap for the capabilities. Cons: The buttons come out too far so mine is constantly changing betwix 12 and 24hr time though i wear it on the inside of the wrist. The button for the light is on the top left so is a bit awkward to use. The face can scratch deeply but it's not noticable. The watch face is a bit small and although the surrounding bright teal blue bars help guide the eyes to the digits i wonder whether they are a waste of space. Some folk have issues with the strap including longevity. Note.. please don't assume folk watching your vids are british... explain you are talking in sterling and what 'Argos ' is. I'm english so i'm ok but it's a bit embarrassing to see that.

I have the W-59 which is similar but more like the 91 with the side light. I think the only difference to the 91 is that it is 50M water resistant.

I bought a Dw291 at the end of December in the sales at Argos. Easy to set up and they seem well made. Stays accurate to 3 or 4 seconds a month as well.

They’ll fake anything, but tend to focus on the F-91W and 168. I’ve not come across a fake W-86. This one is certainly legit.

I’d say that the A168W is the metal equivalent to this W-86 as it is a similar size, has the same Electro Luminescence and the same basic features.

The W-86 is awesome, but the F-105 is a better F-91 replacement size-wise, and of course the backlight on both the F-105 and W-86 is a HUGE improvement.

I cant seem to find any history on the watch even on Casio's website! Please correct me if I'm wrong!

It certainly must be no later than very early 90s as I had one as a child. I’ll ask in my Facebook group as there’s some serious Casio history buffs in there. I’m just a collector/reviewer.

😍 Casio digital watches... Please do NOT buy fake Casio watches from sites like eBay ... Please buy genuine Casio watches so they can continue to make these iconic budget watches. I got my first Casio digital watch circa 1977/1978 a Casio F100-W .. I have around 10 wristwatches and I have four Casio digital watches in my collection ... The Casio W-86 The Casio AE 1000 W The Casio W96H and a Casio G -Shock G2900 For the money, these watches are superb value.

I’d recommend some sort of G Shock. Something like a 5600 or if you want to pay a little extra a 5610 which has solar power and atomic clock automatic timekeeping. Any G Shock would do though, they just vary in size, shape, features and price.

@@evandenis5052 yeh that’s a strange suggestion. The F-91W is an iconic watch, but it’s tiny and doesn’t have a very good backlight at all. It would not take any sort of beating.

I want to buy this watch and replace the resin strap with a nato, but i am not sure about the size. Different webshops give different sizes. I've seen 19 mm, 20 mm and 21 mm too... Please could you measure it for me, so i can buy the right nato strap for it?

The W-86 takes a 19mm strap. I replaced my strap for the super comfortable CA-53W strap that is 20mm and had to slice a small amount from each side to make it fit the 19mm case of the W-86 👌🏻

It would fit width wise based on what I’ve said above, but I don’t know if it’s be too thick to fit under the bars. Also, I’m not sure a Nato would look good on a watch like this - you’re better off leaving it as it is or putting on the strap I put on. NATO’s seem best suited to divers or some G Shocks rather than small Casio digitals.

The F91 is massively over rated. Firstly people act like there weren't great, classic Casio watches before it, yet the design of the F91 is heavily based on what became before it and were hugely popular in the early 1980s. Second, for just a few quid more you can get far superior casios like this one and many, many others. I feel like the F91 is only so famous now because its a favorite with terrorists.
