I do building automation controls and still do some commercial HVAC/R and I love my Ideal clamp meter. For HVAC/R my main clamp meter is an Amprobe AMP-320 mostly for the motor functions (3-phase rotation).

The Amprobe 54NAV is a fantastic meter for HVAC, Far better than any fieldpiece meter in my opinion. The meter I use daily is a Fluke 902fc, my current Fieldpiece SC260 that I carry in my maintenance bag has been acting funky. Great Video once again!

Another great video! You said something that caught my ear regarding your sons company. I hope I explain this correctly. 1.) Fieldpiece is geared for residential but are used in commercial and Industrial applications. 2.) Hvac techs want one meter to carry on site that is why they use Fieldpiece, amprobe and UEI as they incorporate all features they need. Part true! I to went that way years ago till certain features calibration dropped off. Enter fluke 80 and 170 series meters. They hardly ever lose calibration, this along with extensive testing is what your paying for along with lifetime warranty. 3.) Hvac guys rely on high ohm scale meters to verify motor windings when they should have a insulation tester on the truck. True load on winding 250-1000 Volt @1milliamp, not a 9 volt battery or triple As. 4.) You need the right meters for right applications even in same field. All in one meters are good but they eventually fail. Many hvac techs do not like fluke because they refuse to make a meter with all the features they need! So I decided to go with multiple quality as 1 all in one failed a few times at the wrong time. Today I use a fluke 87v, fluke 365 clamp tight spaces and a fluke 1520 insulation tester. No issues!!!!! All rated to -4 degrees. Plus a host of other meters that are good but collecting dust due to great quality currently using. I do residential, commercial and light industrial hvacr. Sorry for being long and this IMO!!!

FLUKE is a well known brand, and it’s not by accident it’s well deserved. Fluke manufacturers some of the best testers , if not thee best testers on the market. That’s why Fluke have had a military/ government contract providing the US military with all their electrical test instruments for decades. Fluke testers don’t die !!! ( Fluke🇺🇸💪) Pete, when possible take a look at my other videos and tell me what you’re thinking 🤔. I would have to agree the amprobe then ideal. I think I would probably lean more to something from extech than southwire. I started with fluke tick tester and ideal wiggy which was later replaced with a fluke I forget the model wasn't the clamp meter was just the open split jaw that I got from my father as a birthday gift which then I transitioned to the fluke clamp think 325/326. I know some guys like flir as well I think they just rely on the name honestly though and just want something other than fluke. I've seen some guys with klein and southwire and generally they end up with false readings and they end up getting annoyed and junking them or leaving them to the bin of spares to be forgotten. I think ideal makes quality products I would trust, but I still feel I rather have amprobe if we excluded fluke from the equation. I think fieldpiece does serve its purpose but caters to the hvac which is fine.

Besides the Fluke 376 which is my most favorite Clamp Meter in the world 🌎. My second favorite Clamp Meter in the world would be the AMPROBE 54NAV. of all the Clamp Meters that I do remember using the Amprobe 54NAV impressed me the most pound for pound stood up to the Fluke 376 in comparison with all functions in some cases the Amprobe out compared the Fluke 376. ( That’s Just My Opinion )

Rob Fahey wrote: ".. I've seen some guys with klein and southwire and generally they end up with false readings and they end up getting annoyed and junking them.." But of course! And therein lies the rub. If everyone buys Fluke only, the buyer loses the benefit that innovation and a competitive environment would otherwise bring. For those who live outside the USA and discover that most non-Fluke brands are way off of acceptable accuracy deviation - what are the choices? Should you buy the cheapest brands and invest in calibration equipment? Or save and invest in Fluke which has a reputation for remaining in specs over extended time?
@robfahey13493 жыл бұрын
True but when your life is on the line your going to go with the tried and true. Dont get me wrong I've seen some creative gizmo testers from other brands an example I guess would be kleins usb tester, which I wouldn't mind, but someone's USB port not working is a simple matter of swapping the device and is a huge difference from existing electrical potential being able to kill you or destroy your tools or not, so hence most people gravitate to the tried and true and aren't as excepting of other brands.

You should do a comparison of the Electricians fluke vs the HVACs Technicians field piece.

I don’t own ANYTHING by Fieldpiece.

@@TheElectriciansToolChannel the only people I know who carry fieldpiece are HVAC and the only people that carry Fluke are Electricians so I think it would be a really cool comparison I might need to buy one myself.

I’ve borrowed someone’s Fieldpiece before to take a measurement and I guess I was use to the quality feel of a Fluke tester that it made the Fieldpiece feel not of as better quality as the Fluke. To this day I think Fieldpiece is overrated ( That’s Just My Opinion ) .
