Correction: It's not just Xiaomi as a budget brand, it's also Xiaomi as a bad brand. The product itself is made for planned obsolescence, and cheap hardware+software is what makes it possible. So it's the brand image+functionality.

xiaomi 14 user here, i absolutely adore this phone!!! it's small, the battery lasts long, and the performance is really good. no lens fogging issue even in winters, but the phone does heat up after 30-40 minutes of gaming. still waiting for the android 15/hyperos 2.0 update

I am using Xiaomi 14, it heats a lot from day one. The temperature stays always at 42-46. I went service center and they say its normal upto 48. This is by just turning on the phone and normal use.

It’s not about the brand image, it’s mostly about the UI, which is pretty cheap and laggy since years. The look and the feel might be fine. But the UI plays a vital role in making a phone feel premium, if it’s not sorted it won’t feel good to use. Both the smoothness and UI is most important thing to be checked when it comes to word premium for any gadget or smartphone at least at this price range.

main issues i think is the Miui (Hyper OS), people already know about problems of miui , heavily customised ,ads and bloatware. If its a stock android , things will be different And also xiaomi phones doesnt have brand value . Having an iphone or samsung gives more pride in the public. (This is just my opinion)

One more issue is motherboard issue with xiaomi.. my mi10t got into trashbag within 1.5 year and the reason was motherboard issue.. hence it has less reliability..

Real reason why Xiaomi 14 is not very popular is because of it's notorious fogging issue of the camera and the stuttering issue of video recordings after updating the OS. The stuttering video recordings issue is not only limited to the xiaomi 14 but also in their other phones like redmi note 13 pro. I know because I have that phone too.

Now let's talk about the frequency of security updates they are providing for the so called flagship phone. Honestly, I like Xioami and POCO phones, but my absolute deal breaker is the lack of long term monthly security updates. Imagine you having a great phone that can run for years without any issue but you cannot use it due to lack of security updates, if you are not prioritizing security updates over specs then one day your bank statement needs to see debits without your knowledge.

I don't think its an issue with brand image, coz my non techie friends know how good the cameras are on Xiaomi flagships, but knowing how good it is for the price I won't recommend it to anyone simply coz the Software support on xiaomi phones in India, same reason I don't recommend Motorola phones above 30K to my friends Bugs, heating issues or lens optimization issues can be resolved with timely software updates but even after spending a decade in Indian market they are nor serious about it Even iQOO phones with 50K+ price catches the eyeballs of enthusiasts despite having average cameras and bloatware coz they don't compromise on software and other aspects of the flagship phones and the sad part is Xiaomi is still not serious about improving Software support on their phone let alone the flagships

It's failing as for some reason people are obsessed with brand image in this price range. Not just Xiaomi, all chinese phones in this segment are better equipped than Apple or samsung's base flagship. Otoh the same phone is very successful in overseas especially in EU. That's part of the reason why EU Hyperos has almost all the features of china rom but India has the bare minimum.

Look I've been using xiaomi phones since forever. I had redmi 3, A1, note 7 pro, redmi 5, 5a, poco f4, and now poco f6. But the thing I loved about these phones are not good anymore. Like the hardware is phenomenal as always I love it. But the software experience is bad. For example If I want to have a launcher (niagra aur nova or any for that matter) it won't let me use gestures, split screen, or floating windows. Also animations get worse. Basically this UI restricts you so much that you feel like you are not even in an Android ecosystem. I am looking to switch from this brand and I recommend you do too.
