For those who didn't see this one when it came out, don't feel too bad, they didn't really market it a ton, at least I didn't see a ton of marketing for it myself, but I saw Bill Murray and Zombies and I said to myself "I bet that would be a zombie movie unlike those done before it" and it turned out to be just that, funny, not too gory, well written and the fourth wall breaking, good stuff, watch it kids, it's a cool ride imo!!!...

I don't think they are? Not in this movie at least. I think all the spelling out of the zombies as allegories for consumerism is an homage to other zombie movies that did this. It feels purposefully hollow. I think the movie is just making fun of the genre and more broadly it has a nihilistic absurdist vibe. If it leans into allegory it does so only insofar as it can mock it for being allegory in the first place. Long way of saying that it ain't all that deep, really

What happens if an undead actually gets what they're obsessing on -- like Chardonnay or ice cream?
@HaloInverse
@HaloInverse Ай бұрын
Based on the kids at the convenience store and the guy dragging a guitar... it seems like they've forgotten _why_ they want the things they want, and what the purpose of those things was. They barely even seem to acknowledge that they _have_ the object of their obsession - the kids weren't eating candy or playing with toys, the musician didn't play the guitar. Just hunger, unending and unsatisfiable.
@onidaaitsubasa4177
@onidaaitsubasa4177 Ай бұрын
@@HaloInverse maybe if you get the kids that say "ice cream" to actually lick the ice cream or put it in their mouth, maybe then they'll just sit there licking it or chewing on it till it's gone, then they'll go wandering around again, it would be interesting if they started saying something different like if the craving was satisfied.
@Erikon14
@Erikon14 28 күн бұрын
I wonder if it was whatever their last 'target' they ever thought of before being infected. Why all the kids were going after candy, those people on their phone wanted wifi and bluetooth, everyone trying to get into the hardware store wanted drills. I'm sure it wasnt meant to have any sorta depth beyond just being a hilarious idea- but it could almost be how the 'virus' makes its victims pursue the living, by keeping their brain focused on retrieval of an item

@@rootbear9742 I have seen that one! pretty fun lol I just think it's funny when you see these large scale zombie movies and you don't see a single kid in the crowd. World War Z, just a bunch of adult stampeding. Even Walking Dead just shows adults now and that show had a zombie girl in the first episode! I get that it's tougher cause you have to involve a child actor and make up and all that, but damn it would make the world feel more immersive if they could squeeze in that kind of reality.
@onidaaitsubasa4177
@onidaaitsubasa4177 Ай бұрын
Walking Dead had kid zombies, usually as a way to show that nobody was safe from turning into a zombie, also as a plot point to make people hesitate before shooting, cause the back of your mind would still be like "it's just a kid" while the rest of your mind would be like "but they're still a zombie, shoot shoot, they gonna eat you"

It was an awful movie, and obviously deliberate, but not for the reason you would think. It wasn't an awful movie for the sake of being awful, but because it was essentially designed to be awful out of a slap in the face to the audience. That's the problem with the movie. It was made specifically so you don't really enjoy it, but it also had to make some money, so they had to make it at least meet that threshold. That's why this movie seems soo "odd", but once you realize the actual intent, it all makes sense.

It's a typical Jarmusch film - first few watching made me wonder if I missed The Joke or it The Joke would be revealed at the end. No. Rewatching it doesn't help either. It has one great aspect - the cast.

I really think this film should have been mated, cross-bred and mashed with Jim's 1989 MYSTERY TRAIN film.
