Gabe, the nilgai is from India and the name literally translates to "blue bull". (neel = blue and gai = bull). The name comes from the male bulls coat which is a dark blue grey color (as you already know). Hunting is no longer allowed here in India but back in the old days this was a famous game meat. Amazing to see it stateside!

Many years ago I worked on a reserve and we hosted school groups. Some of the game here, like kudu and impala, have similar droppings, and having dropping-spitting competitions is a well-known pastime in some parts of South Africa. I used to get the kids to try spitting, but I also used to trick the kids into thinking I was eating the poop. I'm not a hard-core as Bluegabe, so I hid chocolate candies in my pocket.

I shot my 1st buck on the Mariposa, thank you for a very good video, one of your best so far. Kelly is a trooper videographer... and I would not walk through this brush in Flip-flops, braver than me. We hunt Nilgai down here in this cool country, in Big country, and it can be tough, these animals are tough.
