Great. I loved Marsaxlokk, and I was there on a quiet weekday in December so I had the town almost to myself. The colourful fishing boats bobbing up and down in the harbour made an impressive, unforgettable scene. I went crazy with the camera. Those houses with the different coloured doors and window shutters were also so very photogenic.

Thank you, Alex, for bringing back such fond memories for me with this video! Those sweets--so many varieties at that stall--were so tasty, so I'm glad you showed us that; the fresh fish; the clothing; the souvenirs of authentic Maltese lace and embroidery--all such interesting sights! I brought back lace fans for a few friends from Marsaxlokk. That boat ride through the blue-blue-blue waters looked like such fun, similar to boat rides at other spots on the coast of Malta to go out to sea a bit and look back and get wet. Nicely done! And the small town, authentic Maltese culture is also present in Floriana with the baker and the carts of fresh vegetables and fruits and fish in the mornings too.

We had a wonderful time on our trip and hope to be returning soon. Thanks for your informative vlogs.

Also, maybe talk about the history of the area and the significance of the colourful boats. It would also be nice to hear from locals as well as tourists. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work.
@AlexinMalta2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Sheryl, yes, you are right i want to spend more time talking with locals but believe me, its so hard to find some of them to come on camera. Regarding history, i will start including slight info about it in every city that i visit❤️
@mastermaltese87312 жыл бұрын
The boats are called "luzzu" and came about around the late 1800s. They have small eyes on the front for a representation of Osiris who "protects the fishermen", an ancient Phonecean custom. The colours are purely for aesthetic, although pinstriping details used to point out which bay they belong to. Sadly, few remain, they get abandoned and decay, and it takes a lot of woodwork skill to manufacture new ones.

Hi Alex,, just watching your video in Marsaxlokk and I know how busy it gets especially in the Summer. I went by their linea and your have to go first thing in the morning, like really early! I just heard you say that you are allergic to fish. That’s too bad as the fish there is like no where.. I had gone to a local restaurant and had squid pasta . It’s made with the ink of the squid so it sounds a bit strange but it is a great seafood dish….

You should actually try going to the outdoor market in Birgu. My cousin took me there last time I was in Malta and unfortunately we were getting there at the tail end of the open market , it was around 11:30 in the morning but the market starts at 6 AM when the air is still a bit cooler especially in July!

Hi Alex. Marsaxlokk is indeed a very beautiful traditional fishing village. At the end of my one month vacation this February in Malta, I spent the last few days in this idyllic village. What a joy to stroll along the cove and harbour, talking to fishermen and watching the traditional fishing boats moored in the harbour! And the Sunday market was fabulous. I saw a few familiar faces in your video. The guy that took you to St. Peter's pool, his colleague, the lady at the sea-food stall, etc. I enjoyed my stay at Marsaxlokk very much. The only unpleasant experience I had in the village was with the owner of the sweets stall where you bought a dessert. I did not bother to ask the price because anywhere I went in Malta and Gozo, local people are very honest and friendly. But at that stall, I was blatantly overcharged and the owner became very aggresive when I protested. The guy is not from the village though, according to my fishermen friends. On the whole, Marsaxlokk is a beautiful fishing village definitely worth a detour.

Hey hey❤️ i enjoyed reading your comment and im glad it brought you back some memories from February. I can see in your comment your enjoyed Malta to the fullest and im so happy. The sweet i got was €5 and yes i believe that is a lot for a piece of sweet which was absolutely delicious. On the other hand, i noticed Maltese and Non-Maltese were having their spots on the market, i guess its open for anyone to purchase a spot for selling goods. Thank you for supporting my channel❤️

Great videos, been enjoying them for awhile. As a woodcarver who has made a living off markets and galleries I found this one xtra interesting. I would also be interested in the booth fee (how much do venders pay). I read that artsy street vendors in certain parts are being restricted. Also interested in biking culture there: pedal bikes. It feels like there is not a lot of biking infrastructure. Thanks again for your information: easy to watch and listen. Kudos
