This was like at least the 3rd encore we coaxed them back out for, so when he said "I hope you/we all die" I'm pretty sure he meant it. We sang like maniacs for that and "Cry for Judas" and many others. It was like singing to the Mountain Goats in my living room at the top of my lungs WITH the actual Mountain Goats for an hour and a half +/-. But after this one we knew the show was really over and hit the exits. Such a beautiful, amazing night.

@MsFuzzipoo Жыл бұрын
(Imma ramble for a minute. Sorry!) Like the other commenter, I'm here because of Moral Orel, but I was, and still am a huge You're the Worst fan! I vividly remember watching as the final episode of YTW, a bit sad 'cause the episode was nearing the end... then a certain familiar piano riff began: I gasped in recognition/excitement, punched the air, and yelled "YEAH!" I couldn't think of a more perfect song to wrap up that show. Genius. It was a much, MUCH better moment than my introduction to TMG: I'd moved back home from Portland OR, after 7 mostly wonderful years there (and 1 final terrible one), reeling in the aftermath of an abusive relationship, a rape, and a massive opiate addiction... Tapering off opiates (3 days off, 1 day on), most of my time was spent going through full-blown withdrawal. All I could do was watch TV to distract myself as much as possible from horrific withdrawals... which compounded a deep period of clinical depression, feeling like I'd completely failed at life, and loneliness from moving to a place where my friends and I were separated by an ocean (literally, as I'd moved back to Hawai'i). One of the good things to come from that time was discovering Moral Orel as the final season was airing, and the other good thing was hearing this song. It felt familiar (I later realized the lyrics reminded me of that relationship I'd just ended). It was one of the worst months of my life up to that point, but when it passed I decided to check out the "Goats" band I'd heard on Moral Orel. The final season used 3 TMG songs, and they really weren't what I'd usually listen to but something about the lyrics and JD's nasal voice really drew me in. 15 years have passed since then and I've gone back to Portland several times, twice _just_ to see TMG play. There wasn't anyone to visit when I was there: half my friends have moved to San Francisco (literally) and the rest moved back home (but I guess I can't say that now because I made new friends during my last trip there). Three nights of TMG shows at The Aladdin while making new friends, and getting another chance to wander through SE Portland in the full bloom of spring (a time and place I'd actually mourned because I'd loved it so much but never thought I'd never experience it again) have left me with new, happy Portland memories... Going back to Portland and seeing The Mountain Goats in concert has been so wonderful, every time. It always makes me glad I'm still here.

I know this has the meaning of the end of a torrid relationship. But I have come to view it in a personal perspective of almost a suicidal aspect. With almost writing this as your last letter to everyone. Or, viewing it as all the downfalls in your life and the “wife” being symbolic of life. Just an odd concept I had thought of.
