insane that the goats have been around since the 90s and they still manage to improve and innovate their sound on every. single. album

Yeah, like, I can't deny how important "All Hail West Texas" is to me, but other than that one, "Gettin Into Knives" is my favorite album of theirs! Like, they make me feel optimistic about getting older! (I'm almost 40 now)

"it's not the destination, it's the journey" "no" says John. "it's not the destination, it's the freight" it's what you carry with you. it's the weight. it's what's inside.

hi, i just wanted to let you know i’m doing a class assignment on you guys. it’ll be my final project as a senior in high school, called the “passion project,” worth the majority of my grade. it’s because of how your music speaks to me that i’ve chosen you for my topic. regardless of the year, genre, instruments being played, or lyrics, your music has always found a way to speak to me, and to hit me directly in my soul. your music taught me it’s ok to be emotionally exposed and vulnerable. in both your actions and words, the mountain goats has changed my life and my outlook on it. i hope i can not only share what you’ve done with others through my project, but also learn through your work how to make others feel just as you made me feel. even if i can only achieve a fraction of what you taught me, i know i’ll have done well. in the kindest words, thank you for what you’ve done. here’s to what has been, what is, and what futures we still have to write. all hail.

I did an important final project on the Mountain Goats too, quite a few years ago at this point. It was titled, "The Mountain Goats and my Soul" and I put a lot of effort into making my connection with tmg make sense to other people. Best of luck to you and your senior project!

Clarinet is the hot sauce of Mountain Goats tracks. Definitely not needed on everything but DANG does it hit hard in the right spots.

This song is so calm and chill. It's really nice. Also, the bass player has easiest part, but it also takes some focus and discipline to play the same exact thing for almost 6 minutes without any variation.

Tidal Wave is my favourite new song to dance to, we all miss having experienced these songs come to life last year... But for 6 minutes here I imagined I was at a Mountain Goats show and it was transcendental in that room. Completely stunning! Thank you so much for this beautiful music!

There's something about the minimalist vibes of the clarinet on this track that reminds me a bit of this instrumental piece by Arthur Russell. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHnGhohui7Zrhqs

This song brings me so much peace from my anxiety. As others have said the clarinets are so beautiful and carry me into a state of mind where I can let go of my spiraling thoughts. Also maybe there is no real similarity but the last piece of music with clarinets that made me feel this way was in high school performing “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss.”
@roguegreyjedi4 жыл бұрын
I think I've played all three clarinets parts in Hymnsong over the years. It really is a great piece - simple, but requiring so much control in its simplicity. And honestly the third clarinets have the best lines in it. It sounds here like the two clarinets are trading off measures (or maybe just half measures?), which is somehow always easier said than done. They're doing an amazing job here. Hope we get to see more of this extended ensemble!

Love how full the arrangements sound with all the new musicians in the band! And it goes without saying that JD's songwriting is amazing

Everyone vibing out to this track, JD's slow dancing with his hand on his chest and holding the headphones to his left ear, the soft clarinets. This means so much to me 💚
