happy new year everyone! we’re back from our little hiatus after the holidays, and we wanted to address some comments we’ve been seeing lately ✨ 1. we understand joey’s off-screen laughter isn’t for everyone, but it’s here to stay. however, we hear you that it may be too loud! we’re currently testing different mics - stay tuned ☺ 2. please don’t mistake my snark for disrespect - I’ve loved 90% of the movies we’ve watched so far! snark is just my love language. 3. 5 years ago, I fractured my spine. until I undergo invasive surgery, I’m unable to sit upright for too long. so I will remain horizontal for the foreseeable future. 4. no substances are involved while making these videos. we wish they were, then we’d have an excuse as to why we’re like this. 5. there are a ton of shorter reactions on tiktok that will never make it to youtube. we did not think this little adventure would take off the way it has, and unfortunately we lost some files along the way (RIP). we will still be posting the ones we do have (looking at you Evil Dead trilogy). 6. we’re trying our best to record & post these as quickly as possible, but please bear with us! our hope is to grow this channel enough that we can concentrate on it full time ☺ 7. lastly, be kind! not just to us, but to each other 🖤 thank you all for following along! your sweet comments and fun movie facts are our favorite part of this journey so far. follow us on tiktok for more content, and drop any other questions below ✨

I honestly don't see why some would have so many issues. I actually enjoy the off-screen laughter. Not everyone wants to be on camera, but this way you can still enjoy movies together. Other wise you'd just be talking to yourself and it would seem a bit more boring considering the excitement you get when you predict something correctly. And I also LIKE the fact that you're laying down for this. It's unique because it's not something everyone else is doing. Everyone has to have something that makes them stick out and this is one of those. Someone may see the thumbnail and be like "why is this woman watching the Mummy from this perspective?" and then they stay for the enjoyable commentary. By all means keep it.

That bouncing light from mirror to mirror is a valid thing to do. Myth Busters did it years ago and proved it to be true and it worked fabulously spreading light inside a dark room.
@Hal271811 ай бұрын
Yeah, but... the sun moves 🫤 or I should say the Earth is moving, but just speaking in terms of our POV. Point is that all the mirrors would need to be moved at regular integrals to maintain the lighting.
@MatthewPettyST130011 ай бұрын
@@Hal2718 They ( Mythbusters) also had that problem setting up the experiment. They finally settled on a huge stage lighting lamp. Maybe with the abundance of labor the Egyptians could have someone stationed outside to move the mirror.

@TheLanceUppercut11 ай бұрын
I'm sorry, but unless they tested the same myth twice, that was not the conclusion they drew. In the Mythbusters test it stopped reflecting any appreciable light after like 3 mirrors and even then the whole set up had only a small effect on the overall lighting of the room. Fires of any kind are much more effective and efficient.
@RobinHood300011 ай бұрын
I remember that myth, and if I remember correctly, it didn't work particularly well until Jamie stepped into the beam wearing a reflective white shirt. The movement of the sun and the inability of the mirrors to diffuse the light were major obstacles.

The practical stunt for the hanging scene went terribly wrong and Fraser was strangled unconscious. Once they realized that he was really out cold and not acting, EMT's had to step in and revive him. In fact, years of directors convincing him to do many of his own stunts, led to so many back injuries, that he needed multiple surgeries over the years to repair the damage. This led to him being out of work for many years and was the primary source of all his weight gain.

You gotta watch George of the Jungle at some point. Just to give Nikki something to look at. Also, I love that Benny's death is foreshadowed when he asks "They do?" You hear the bugs chittering in the background. This movie is basically the last truly great adventure movie. I mean classical adventure movie. They have yet to make one in over 20 years that compares. If there was ever a proper sucessor to Indiana Jones, it was The Mummy.
@orinanime11 ай бұрын
There have been other great adventure films since this one. Titan AE (2000) The first Pirates of the Caribbean (2003) was a rollicking swashbuckling adventure. Prince of Persia (2010) John Carter (2012) And I lot more. And that's just American movies. Lots of countries have their own movie industries and made other adventure movies.

@OpenMawProductions11 ай бұрын
@@orinanime Like I said "classical." None of those are classical, with the exception, maybe, of Pirates. Titan AE, PoP, and John Carter are not "classical adventure." AE is an early 2000s science fiction adventure, PoP is a very modern take on stock adventure, and John Carter, while its roots are in classical literature is still not a "classical adventure." It's a modern movie with modern Hollywood accoutrements. None of those are set in the late 19th to early/mid 20th Century, they don't feature quests for treasure, or the typical tropes of classical adventure. The Mummy both embodies and emulates the classic adventure format. Also other "movie industries" are not making classical adventure stories. Nobody is making Lawrence of Arabia, or Indiana Jones. Nobody is emulating the tone, style, feel, and location of the great early 20th Century epic tales. "Classical adventure" is a specific subgenre. Nobody makes them anymore. The Mummy was basically the last. Not even the sequels do it justice. It's not just "adventure." It's the music, the tone, the style of editing, the acting/actor choices, the era in which the story is set.
@OpenMawProductions11 ай бұрын
Indiana Jones 4 and 5, also, are not "classical" adventure as they take place post-war and shed a lot of the tropes, tone, and era specific iconography that make up the classical adventure epics.

One interesting fact about the development of this film: Originally the script was written as a straight horror monster movie (like Frankenstein or Dracula), but it wasn't getting any traction. Finally they decided to re-envision it with more of a comedic, action-adventure slant as had been so successful in the Indiana Jones franchise -- and the rest, as they say, was history!

One detail I never got from this movie that I only found out about on reading the original script is why Imhotep kept having to stab Ankh-su-namon every time he tried to resurrect her, so I'll relate it here. He did succeed in reviving her the first time, but she was missing all of her vital organs. Since she was freshly dead, he had to cut her open and put them back inside her before she died again. However, in the future, her organs had long since turned to dust. That's why he needed Evy...he was going to cut out HER organs and put them in her. By the way, if you thought this movie was gruesome, I recommend against watching Stephen Sommers' prior film to this: "Deep Rising". Although the actor who played Beni is in that one in a more likeable role.

I know how you feel about bugs. I was canoeing with my father down in one of the many S. Georgia swamps, passing the time by bothering the alligators and looking for fish. We were headed back to the dock, on the far side of the swamp, when a storm came up with wind, rain, and a severe dedication to not allowing us to reach the dock. The wind took my glasses and blew them overboard, and in the mad scramble to retrieve them, balance became counterbalance, became overbalance, and we capsized. There we were, in the water with all the gators we had been pestering, and no easy way to escape. We both knew how to right a canoe and bail, but we had no bailing bucket. We both knew how to lay down inside the submerged canoe and paddle in "low profile mode", but we also rememberd each and every one of the gators we had found that afternoon, and wanted a bit more distance between us and the surface of the water while we continued our trip to the dock, hopefully placing us out of "smorgasbord" mode for the amphibious, carnivorous dinosaurs of the swamp. Seeing a clump of trees sticking out of the water nearby, we dragged the canoe over to them and wrapped our frantic arms around them. As the centipedes and palmetto bugs (imagine a three inch long Cockroach 🪳) scrambled down our arms, into our hair, under our collars and down our backs, desperately looking for a way out of the enforced solitude of this lone clump of vegetation, I wrapped my belt around a tree as high as I could reach, pulled my torso out of the water with my left hand and lifted the 12 foot Grumman canoe as high as I could out of the water with my right, dumping as much water as I could, while my father grunted encouragement in my ear. "You know we can't see the gators until they grab our feet, right? " he said. "You know I need both my feet to do my job, right?" "Are you taking your time? I'm getting a little nervous here." When I set the canoe back in the swamp, after the third attempt to drain it, dad judged it usable and I steadied the canoe while he frantically pulled himself out of the vile water and into the boat, then I scrambled in myself. At no time during this whole process did the bugs cease their escape attempts, and we spent the next 23 minutes paddling for all we were worth as the bugs searched for all the good hiding places under our clothing. We eventually reached the dock, where we stripped off our clothes in a mad attempt to rid ourselves of the millions of bugs that had hitched a ride to the mainland on our skin. The ride back home was quiet, each of us struggling with internal demons. Dad may have been worried about gators, but I could still feel millions of legs crawling over my scalp, down my back, and up my legs headed toward parts that should always remain bug free. When we pulled into the yard there was a mad dash to the comfort of the bathrooms, where showerheads were waiting to wash us clean of all our troubles. The Sulphur smell of the small town water, which I had loathed forever, suddenly seemed a blessing, as if medicated to better cleanse my skin. I stayed in the shower until the hot water ran out, and stayed longer still. I used half a bottle of anti- dandruff shampoo on my skin, praying it would somehow cleanse me of the memories made that afternoon. It didn't. I still get the heebie-jeebies sometimes when I see a bug, and will feel their tiny legs crawling across my back, under my shirt, or in my hair. Yeah, I know how you feel about bugs.

Great reaction and also great edit! I love the choice of ending the reaction on "Are there bugs in the second one?"

Gr8ly liked your reaction to this. My late wife and I caught this one in the movie theatre upon its release and we both enjoyed it very much as well as BF's other performances dating back to "Encino Man". Debbie was employed @ a CPA firm for a time and Brendan Fraser happened to be one of the clients there; she met up w/ him on several occasions when he'd pop into the office and @ one point in time she even secured his autograph (this being about when this film premiered), and so for me that notepad-sized sheet of paper is now a special keepsake of which I've "inherited" from her. Incidentally, I had a library job position for nearly five yrs, so I certainly can relate to the Evelyn Carnahan character.

5:55 crazy fact - Brendan Fraser says he was officially dead for 18 seconds during the hanging scene. They didn't set up the stunt correctly and he actually snapped in the noose for real. And he choked and lost brain function and had to be resuscitated.

At the time the bugs showed up for the first time, I feared very much, that Nikki's face froze forever in that expression.

Nikki in the first act: "Are there more bugs?" Me, knowing what's coming: "Uh ... Buckle up!"

That shot with Rick being strangled unconscious by the noose was actually Brendan Fraser getting strangled for real. Fortunately, the crew realized what was happening before it was too late, and Brendan suffered no lasting harm. It really did help his method acting, though, and was left in the movie.
