You got that right! But honestly, it makes sense. The car was originally put together around 1970. And was in storage for about 30 years. So I think I’m just working through a lot of the weak links at this point. I’ve gone near rebuild everything on it. Maybe I’ll rewire it the spring. Wiring is a little sketchy.

Stop me if you know this. Remove shift rods. Shifter in neutral. Pin/nail /drill bit/ what-ever in shifter alignment hole to lock shifter forks. Put all tranny fork levers into neutral position. Adjust rods to fit/then install them. Remove pin. Done. Assuming shifter/ rod bushings aren't worn out. (If this doesn't work, decide which is cheaper, case of dynamite or new shifter). 🤣

Yes, I discovered the instructions afterwards. The funny thing is, I didn’t even move into the linkage when I took it off so I don’t know why it didn’t go back at the same way. Transmission seems to work fine it’s definitely a linkage issue. I’ll have to get to that next week. Of course I have to fix my tire first.

should be fine after adjustment sounds like lever not fully releasing reverse which locks u out of forward gears. Hate to see all the spare parts I'd have after pulling my trans apart lol
@Theoldironworkshop
@Theoldironworkshop 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s my theory as well because it goes into gear fine but as soon as I put it in reverse, I can’t get it back in forward gear. And honestly rebuilding it is pretty simple in the scheme of things. It’s just a matter of working through the correct process.

Appears to me that the clutch is not fully releasing. If it goes into gear not running, then the clutch is spinning, not allowing it to go into gear. Did you replace the slip yoke bushing in the rear of the transmission? That is what galled the original slip yoke. Push up and down on slip yoke. Should be almost no play.
@Theoldironworkshop
@Theoldironworkshop 6 ай бұрын
Yes I replaced the bushings. Also, the clutch is fully disengaging.
@thejeepdoctor
@thejeepdoctor 6 ай бұрын
If it was fully disengaging, trans would shift like engine is shut off. Does vehicle use a pilot shaft bushing or bearing? Dry bushing may be keeping the input shaft spinning? What ever your problem is, is clutch related.
@Theoldironworkshop
@Theoldironworkshop 6 ай бұрын
Hmm. Perhaps I will try to readjust. The clutch doesn’t seem to be dragging on engine is running and in gear but you could be right.

I have no idea who built the car in the 70s. I tried doing a search on the H.A.M. But didn’t turn up anything. But all of the holes in the frame were cut out with the torch. It’s pretty crude. The big bottom plate definitely helps everything.
