Pretty obvious the reason they used the first half of the first verse as the first verse here, and the second half of it as the second verse, while omitting the actual second verse altogether: to make it a bit less obvious that the Muppets were singing a song about carrying on a love affair. Would have been a bit weird if Floyd and Janice had gotten around to singing "She said 'why don't we both just sleep on it tonight, and I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light', and then she kissed me, and I realised she probably was right".

If you watch a lot of the Muppets in action, you'll find that most of them are "left-handed". That's because the operator of the Muppet is using his or her right hand to manipulate the Muppet's mouth, leaving their left arm/hand free to manipulate one of the Muppet's arms, which turns out to be the left one.
