They have told me the owners of the businesses lives are ruined because there’s no way they can afford the damages. And why do they deserve this? Brian and Lawrence just say the rioters are mad and leave it at that. Well being mad about something is no justification to destroy innocent people’s whole lives and put many others out of jobs. One of these ideologies is that u have each others back and u don't snitch because we are in the same team. As an American who enjoys your channel (football fan from growing up in the UK) I'm really glad you two did a video about this and with a responsible amount of detail. I feel more proud of my fellow citizens than I ever have and I'm just glad to see that our punishing news cycle and truly evil system haven't totally pushed everyone into apathy -- and it feels great to see this message being picked up from people around the world, because our military is a global threat in all the worst ways (and our police get their gear from our military). That's how we have nurses treating COVID in trash bags and now suddenly we can have police that look like invaders in their own country. It's about how they look after those who are saving our lives vs how they're looking after those that end them. If you aren't American and are looking to help, please consider donating to a bail fund to help release the protestors from any of the cities that have held protests (all are available easily online, just search for them - there's even one that splits your donation across all the cities). We need our bravest people out among the people as quickly as possible and this is a great way to aid with that. I don't condone the looting of small businesses but if you're American you'll know that they don't listen when people just march peacefully. They come with tear gas to inflict respiratory issues during a pandemic which disproportionately affects those with such issues. Time for change. Much love y'all and thanks for caring, we have done very little to deserve it!

I was thinking about posting on my Facebook, but I have friends from very wide views. However, this is what I would’ve posted: “I try to not voice my own opinion often as I know there will never be one thing said that all will agree with, but with all that’s been going on, I’ve had a lot going on in my head and I wanted to put it somewhere. I get that there’s bad in this world, I really do, and being completely honest, I think we all saw eye to eye on how wrong what happened to George Floyd was. What happened to him should happen to no one ever, no matter the circumstances. I don’t think anyone is particularly ignorant for not noticing how wrong this is, but I’d like to see why they wouldn’t understand what’s wrong with this. Next thing, the protests, the right to assemble and to protest is in the constitution, it’s there for a reason, but it’s simply gotta be done peacefully because the second it’s not peaceful is the second it breaks the constitution. The “riots” and the “looting” are not peaceful one bit, no matter where they’re being started from. But those aside, the police need to let the peaceful protests go on, let them get their message across. Hell, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns we’re jailed in their attempts to protest for Woman’s Rights. And I know that some of you are going to say that Peaceful Protesting doesn’t get enough attention. I believe it was Alice Paul who was literally force fed with a tube because her protest went as far as to literally starving herself in order to get national attention. I think the police are handling things the wrong way, and I think the communities that are protesting are doing it in the wrong way as well. Martin Luther King & Rosa Park, Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and I’ll even count Gandhi are names of very famous protestors, doing whatever it took to show their support for what they believed in. They were not violent, they were patient and they showed what they believed in. Even before internet, they managed to create national attention without causing their own violence; they got attention even before mass media. There’s a lot going on in this world right now, but the first step to fixing these is to reconnect with one another. We live in a day and age where we are so disconnected from one another, and it upsets me to see it. Go out, shake some hands, get to know one another. I’m sure you’ll quickly find out we aren’t as different and separated as some might believe”

Here's a few facts: -Mr. Floyd had a history of incarceration for a serious crime: every year spent in prison takes 2 years off your life -Mr. Floyd had hypertension and heart disease -Mr. Floyd was allegedly heavily drunk or on powerful drugs (prescribed or not) -Mr. Floyd may have been overweight -Mr Floyd was middle-aged -Mr. Floyd cannot be taken on his word when he said he was dying or cannot breathe because his criminal history minutes earlier speaks to the credibility of his word and numerous people constantly freak out and call 911 after a nose bleed. It is natural to have thoughts about death cross your mind but in the vast majority of cases it does not mean that the person knows what's going on. Sort of like a broken clock, Mr. Floyd happened to land on the right inference that time. Remember the viral video back in 2010 or so when the black killer had his butt kicked by the elderly white bearded man? He demanded an ambulance because he got a bloody nose. Had that guy developed cerebral hemorrhage from the beating and died, someone would have called the old guy a racist murderer. -As recently as 2016, researchers studying police related cardiac arrest concluded that prone positioning has little effect on ventilation. They concluded that other explanations may account for sudden death in cases classified as restraint asphyxia and they noted that no criteria as to the duration and pressure of perceived positional asphyxia had been established (The problem of police-related cardiac arrest, Karch, 2016, Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine). Finally, Mr. Floyd seemed to be in great distress well before he was placed in a prone position. This MAY indicate that Mr. Floyd was already going into cardiac arrest or a related health crisis owing to the combination of factors (stress of arrest, intoxication, age, weight, prior heart disease, sex, race etc.). Tentatively this raises many questions about responsibility and how it should be distributed. It might be that Mr. Floyd needed emergency medical attention even before the arrest and that the knee thing was largely cosmetic or just prolonged the wait for the medical help he needed anyway. If that were the case, obviously the officers misinterpreted the situation but lots of police procedures don't account for medical realities. You cannot expect a police officer to be a physician too and you need to take your problem to the legislative or other authoritative body that expects the police to act a certain way.
@Tomato614 жыл бұрын
You have to be joking surely. Whether George Floyd was a bad man in his past or not is irrelevant. He was killed for no reason, he’d done nothing that a white person would’ve been killed for. And you’re trying to tell me a man kneeled all of his body weight on top of his neck for 8 minutes but he died from something else? You’re part of the problem, I suggest you educate yourself and change your mindset.
@miesvaillanykyisyytta32524 жыл бұрын
@@Tomato61 Are you telling me that the people in the ambulance thought that a dead man was having a heart attack? They clearly said that he's going through cardiac arrest.Therefore he was never killed; not by a man anyway.We have no idea and may never know if Mr. Chauvin truly pressed on his neck and we have no established criteria for deadly force and duration in that position. Anyone who saw the video can see that Chauvin had one lower leg on top of Floyd; therefore not "all of hid body weight". Just last year a middle-aged black cop in Idaho killed a naked mentally ill white man with his gun but was not convicted of murder but rather aggravated assault and other charges although in that case the cop clearly killed the person. What about the Australian-American woman in distress who was unarmed, scared and gunned down by a Somali cop in America? I could go on. Please stop with the racism bullshit.
@Tomato614 жыл бұрын
mies vailla nykyisyyttä I can’t believe people like you even exist. There’s literally a video of him saying he can’t breathe whilst Chauvin kneels on his neck?! Minorities across the world experience racism daily, it’s not just about black people. also if chauvin didn’t kill him, explain why he’s been convicted of 2nd degree murder. Surely they can’t get that wrong ?
@MrCr1spy14 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Also, don't worry about the punishment, I looked it up, even for 3rd degree murder you can get up to 25 years in prison in Minnesotta and public pressure will be piling up, so he will probably get the maximum sentence.

8:22 I completely disagree with your point here boys. Although the officer in question should be punished for his actions, that doesn’t mean that the police force should allow him to be subject to vigilantism. The police are duty bound to protect him so that he is punished in the correct way. By protecting a racist man, they are not supporting racism, they are doing their job

I live pretty close to Philadelphia and work even closer to the city. Watching all of this go down has been really sad, frightening, disturbing, a bit of everything. The protests were fantastic, but unfortunately in Philly, most of the protests have ended and its just a bunch of criminals running rampant looting stores and taking advantage of the extremely sad situation. The countless amount of families watching their businesses burn to the floor is heartbreaking, and I couldn't imagine being in that situation myself. A lot of our local media also isn't covering any of the protests that haven't lead to violence, most of which have taken place in surrounding cities. The media yet again seems to be amplifying the situation rather than just reporting on it.

The analogy in which I live by is as follows: If there is a row of terraced houses and one of those houses is on the fire the fire brigade don't turn up and put water on all of the houses because all houses matter, they put the water on the house on fire because that's the house in which needs help the most. I hope people see this.
@TheSm1thers4 жыл бұрын
That's a stupid analogy because the fire service should put out all the houses on fire, not just one. This BLM thing will accomplish little cos it avoids the root of the problem, which is police brutality caused by gun control laws and poverty.

To be fair to the police officers standing guard outside the murderer's house, they have to do that. They can't just allow a riot to attack this guy and most likely kill him. Most people would say he deserves it, but the police are law enforcers and (I'm pretty sure) american law does say that everyone has to have a trial before they might possibly be given a death sentence, if that's still in place in Minneapolis.

EDIT: you do address these issues but I’ll leave the comment up because we can’t remind ourselves of these injustices enough I haven’t finished the video but so far think there are important things to remember in response to your comments. Most looters arrive to loot, not to protest and they’re not typically the same. Far right, white supremacists have been arrested for inciting violence. White ‘protestors’ who don’t want to protest are starting violence then leaving. Police officers are firing at peaceful protestors which leads to a violent response from protestors. Many black protestors have been begging non-blacks to stop being violent. It’s important we acknowledge the officers chose to work and continue to work for an oppressive system. It’s also important that we as white people acknowledge the mistakes we might have made due to the system we’ve grown up in, so that we can learn and evolve and provide bipoc with their basic human rights! Thanks for the video and thank you for using your platform! We can collectively change the system!

I think asking for vigilante justice against this officer is not a very healthy viewpoint. It's just unnecessarily anarchist. If you allow the people to serve justice at a whim without due process, then racism will become far more extreme as people assume black people have committed crimes that they in fact have not. The officer should be punished with the full force of the law, but that takes time and needs to be done right. He _should not_ get off, and we need to ensure that he _does not_ get off, but we can't do that by simply murdering him. Violence does not solve violence, and will never empower minorities who are statistically at a huge disadvantage in any civil war by the very nature of their minority status.
