Personally, i agree with you that the older OSTs are much more congruent with the overall atmosphere of the game. That said, the older fallout titles OSTs arent realy going well with the visuals of Fallout 4. In-general, personaly i would like for Bethesda to go to a much more darker tone and graphical presentation within the next major Fallout title. Thank you for the upload sir, God Bless you.

Agreed. Music should always complement the atmosphere but here it just doesn’t work IMO. Inon Zur has done masterful work with Fo4 and Fo76 OSTs but so has he done with Fo3 and FNV OSTs. They fit their games respective atmosphere perfectly, and really it’s Bethesdas choice where the atmosphere goes.

Agreed, old FO1&F02 OST does not work all that well with FO4. Have a go with "Lost World - Immersive Soundtrack Replacer" along with "Distortion - Combat Music Replacer". It's as good as it gets for FO4!

I think the further in the future a Fallout game takes place, the more hope should be sprinkled into the atmosphere as the ecological effects of the bombs subside and things get rebuilt. So I don't mind it in Fallout 4 as I believe it's the furthest in the future I do mind it in Fallout 76 because it's so recently after the war and how desperate that era is, the least amount of survivors/NPC's, the most abandoned locations, and the most otherworldly/powerful mutants in the series

Dont forget to add some gore mods like Sevran gore plasma and laser, No combat music, No exp kill sound, Add Classic weapons and Some old enemies from old games, Pip boy mk2000 (Fallout 76 pip boy however it is inspired by fallout 1 pip boy) a good hud personally fallout 3 hud with light green color would be well. And there you have better og fallout experience

First track fit the location well enough. The second track is dark and atmospheric, that would be more at home delving into an abandon vault or subway. Possibly, the music cue would be perfect for following the clues to uncover a nefarious story of how a vault a particular vault was killed.

I feel like the change in tone of music also may have something to do with how we may view the post apocalypse now. So many people joke with their friends about what they’d do in a like a zombie apocalypse or something. And it’s become more fun now than I feel in previous decades that were just a bit closer to the actual cold war. Fallout 1 and 2 aren’t that old but I still feel the further we get from that period the more we get removed from the very real fear of when true nuclear annihilation could’ve been at any moment. It feels less real. Because many people who actually lived through that period are starting to die off. Nuclear annihilation is definitely still possible but not nearly ad close as it was a few times in the cold war where we truly right on the brink of it and any different decision could’ve led to the end of world. So I feel like in the late 90s nuclear post apocalypse was still seen as almost purely negative. A literal nightmare people would have where nothing good could come of it and games like Fallout 1 and 2 were more like horror games with a glimmer of hope. You were the hero in world full of evil where good samaritans like the folks of shady sands or the followers of the apocalypse were far fewer. While jn Fallout 4 there’s very few humans you meet that are truly evil. Most people in Boston are normal good hearted people if they’re not raiders. Even in the more evil factions like the institute Dr. Ayo and Shaun are pretty much the only pretty evil scientists. The rest are just nerds who want to do their research in peace and are just jaded to what the synths are doing above ground. While in Fallout 1 the average joe you meet is probably more likely to be a guy who sells chems to kids or eats people. I mean i think there’s a place that sells centaur meat😂! That’s a world I don’t want to live in. But somewhere along the line some people began to almost find relief in post apocalyptic settings. No work, no rules, complete freedom, and a chance to rebuild. I feel like the “rebuild” aspect of the post apocalypse is much more prominent as well today than it was even in the 90s. Look at Far Cry. The post nuclear world has all these bright colors that looks better than the old world and you have settlements of people working together to rebuild society free of the old governments and rules. There’s a lot less security and much more normalized violence in those worlds but look at the purge movies in pop culture. Some people want that chance to have no rules violence included as long as they can protect themselves. In the Fallout world, if a guy is a rapist you can just walk over to his shack with tour friends and shoot him😂 no questions asked. You grow your own food you don’t have to pay taxes. Raiders can catch you and do incredible horrendous sadistic things as they kill you but if you have enough friends and weapons you can protect each other and live in peace. I just think that more and more people are seeing the post apocalypse as almost a desirable alternative to current society that could have some postives. And at the very least in a virtual world you can fully enjoy that total freedom without any of the real danger. While in Fallout 1 you wanted to go back into the vault and being banished was truly a betrayal and felt like a death sentence being sent back into a sort of hell. But jn Fallout 4 you can’t wait to get out for the vault. The vault’s are shown to be mostly bad and your chances of survival are often better outside of it. You can build a small utopian society free from old governments and shape it how “you” want to. So that’s what I believe is causing that shift in the tone of post apocalyptic media.

City of the Dead theme really didn't fit in downtown Boston. Maybe in certain areas of the game(Like the Glowing Sea), where really f*cked up things happened the old OST does, but Inon Zur really captured the feel of Post-Apocalyptic Boston well with his ambient tracks.
