I learned Liebestraum no.3 for my grade 10 and loved it. I'm also learning Un Sospiro right now for my ARCT. One of the big things that I learned about Liszt over the past few years is he is the master of variations throughout his pieces. He can take a simple (or intricate) melody, play that same melody in a piece 3 or 4 times, with each time sounding more beautiful than the last. So incredible!

Your channel is fantastic! I could listen to you all day. I love how you can take a more casual, relatable approach to this sort of thing instead of trying to maintain an air of academic polish... Classical music can be enjoyed by anyone. And to cut through some of the frills and communicate on a direct, casual level is (I believe) one of the best ways to help someone who did not grow up in a conservatory environment enjoy and understand common-practice music as a whole. I have great admiration and respect for your skills as a pianist, and your enthusiasm for the music. Very glad your channel is around!

I don't know much of Liszt, outside his very famous work, but I did heard one piece from my teacher in concert and I was very impress. I've listen to it many times from youtube afterward, and it is from the Années de Pèlerinage, première année : Suisse, Vallée d'Oberman. I really like that piece very much!

My favorite Liszt piece has to be the Piano Sonata, such a masterpiece. Second favorite would probably be the years of pilgrimage piece. Also like the Mesphisto waltzes, Le Gondala Lugabre (or however you spell that). I still have yet to get into the Dante or Faust symphonies. I listened to them a few times but didn't get too much out of them. But I probably will someday. Oh I also really like Totentanze.

I love his transcription of Beethoven's 5th symphony just as much as the original symphony. In fact, I am advanced enough that I can play it as long as I go slow and make sure I get tons of practice in each hand. If I start practicing it this year, I will probably be able to play though the entire symphony transcription a year from then. Thank goodness it has 0 presto movements because presto is much much harder for me to do than allegro. Even after months of practicing Solfeggio in C minor, going up to presto still trips me up so I typically don't go any further than allegro.

Out of all the eligible opera paraphrases you choose Rigoletto? It's the most famous but not the best by a long shot. It only elaborates one aria in particular: Bella figlia dell'amore, and that's it. The Faust Symphony is easily his most significant work, Liszt regarded the Christus oratorio as his best achievement. Ce qu'on entend sur la montagne after Victor Hugo is the most underrated symphonic poem of his.
