paprika was one of my fav album openers of the year. such a gorgeous track and the opening lines encapsulate the record sooo well.

Loving these artist deep dives, it’s fun to learn more about some artists that I’ve had a passing interest in

great video! i loved jubilee but psychopomp is still my fav japanese breakfast record. love the lo fi production and short catchy pop songs. that album could almost serve as a precursor to jubilee as well because it is mostly about her mother's death.

ty! i can see psychopomp being the fave of someone who's stuck with them for a bit - but you're absolutely right in terms of the timeframe with her mom

there's two version of posing in bondage, one in jubilee and one single with 2042. the one in jubilee is a lot more upbeat whilst the other is on the mellow side.

I can only say thank you and that I agree as a huge Japanese Breakfast fan (I wish she would change it to Korean tho). The first time I listened to 'Boyish', and also watched the video, I was obsessed. I was addicted to "Be Sweet" this year and was supposed to see a live concert, which unfortunately was cancelled after being postponed (Europe based). So a little disappointed. Borrowed 'Crying in H mart' at the library, but didn't finish it, seems like the hype is real though.

The sound of your short, is] more joyful than that album. Great takes on the book and tunes though. Im inspired enough to hope for another chance to listen, and hope I don't forget to read the book. Still, for both... More triumphant horns and less Michellencholy.
