Water power to drive inclined planes was in use in England before the1790's. The ramp angle change of the rails is however, a clever innovation. I wish I could travel your canal. I have yet to travel even all of New York State's canals where I live.

Thanks for this detailed explanation! Questions: -Is there any machanism to tension the cable or adjust the cable lengh when it stretches over time or at differnt drum positions? -Why isnt the power station at the buttom? The system could be more efficient and use less water, if the station is using higher water pressure but less water flow. So the energy in the water is wasted after the station. -Is there any additional brake system in case of a cable break? -I wander the brake does not get very hot during downhill drive. But maybe there is enogh friction from all the pullys etc.
