In this video, we’ll be exploring the “heavily disturbed monumental complex at Glandy Cross”... revisiting it’s better preserved neighbour Gors Fawr... and heading up the nearby Preseli slopes to Bedd Arthur and the Bluestone outcrops of Carn Menin, Carn Goedog and more… to be greeted by a surprise introduction from a bold young mountain pony.
Glandy Cross is a tiny village on the Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire border. If you’ve driven through you’ll probably have noticed the Petrol Station and perhaps the pub, which has been long closed… but you may have missed Meini Gwyr and it’s neighbouring stones and earthworks. This unassuming site has been the subject of investigation and excavation for the past three centuries, lying at the centre of West Wales most important complex of prehistoric ritual and funerary monuments, and on the ridge-way linking the Western end of the Preseli mountains to the Eastern Cleddau river and Milford Haven.

Brilliant drone footage as ever, the clarity is great. But more importantly your research into these sites is excellent and this can be very time consuming and the hard bit not actually getting the shots. So I really appreciate the information you provide. One day (soon I'm guessing) our paths will cross at one of these sites. Keep up the great work and thank you.

Great video again, the drone footage of the bluestone sites is really good, well done. I think you are the only ones doing a KZbin project on the ancient sites in Wales, this channel is very important for Welsh and UK prehistory, Martin.

Wow, thanks 😁 the drone has quickly become a really fun and important tool, and we love rewatching the footage 🩶... that's really nice of you, hopefully we'll have visited every notable site in Wales in the not too distant future, and encouraged others to do the same🤞

Nice video! Well done -- good to see some balanced consideration of the evidence and a recognition of the disputes that are the lifeblood of scientific investigation......

Thanks so much, very kind of you 😁 It's frustrating, as I'm sure you know, how much of the reporting uses very definite terms such as 'exact match' 'key in a lock' 'smoking gun'... and make very little differentiation between a conclusion and the evidence that it's based on. Many quotes and references in the next video will have 'Brian John' written under them 😉

I understand that a lot of stones from Avebury Circle were to make the local buildings.

We believe that is the case here aswell, we were going to include a theory that large stones were stolen by locals attempting to build a 'ty unnos' (one night house), but couldn't find any stories directly relating this site...

Do we know what alignment, if any, the original stone circle had?

Thanks for watching. The entrance is listed as facing W, but it appears to be facing NW and there are some references to this. NW is roughly in the direction of Foel Eryr and Foel Cwmcerwyn, but we haven't been there for sunset to see where that would be in relation to the ridgeway.
