@@hleroklite well ya, you don't want kids born from random men by having most/all of the men castrated mean's they don't have to deal with knowing who's kid is who's and less/no kids from assault or cheating like the emperor has 1000's of concubine's with 4 favorites,, most of those were sold/gifted to him in hope's they gain favor or become a "wife" and birth a son but if a guy was to sneak in and sleep with one of them they could try and clam the baby as the emperors it's one of the reasons she tests for aphrodisiac for anyone important

32:15 One thing I'll note on Gaoshun saying it was just a prank, you'll notice that when Maomao got distracted and stopped paying attention to Jinshi, he didn't take advantage it to feed the honey to her. He instead just stayed where he was and waited for her to pay attention again. That tells me that he didn't actually care about feeding her the honey, he just was enjoying her reaction to him doing that. So, it is not inaccurate of Gaoshun to refer to it as such. It's not a situation where Jinshi's so socially inept that he thinks she'd want that, but rather that he knows how much she would be annoyed by what he's doing, and that's exactly what he wants.

There isn't much we can say that won't give away the plot, so bear with it for a while yet! One thing that piques my interest is the fact that as a Chinese person, I immediately picked up on the fact since episode 1 that Maomao's "oyaji" isn't her "oyaji" by blood, but possibly by relation, but that this wasn't obvious to you. Loumen was obviously way too old to have had a child of Maomao's age. At this time in the episode, the assumption is that Maomao is an orphan, or at least a person with no other parental figure than Luomen and the residents of Verdigris House. Here's something I ran into while looking up the definition of Verdigris: a green or greenish blue poisonous pigment resulting from the action of acetic acid on copper, consisting of one or more basic copper acetates, and formerly used in medicine.

Doctors in the rear palace were rarely ever good since It didn't make much sense for people to devote their whole to learning about medicine, a very difficult and needed profession, only to get castrated for your troubles

The implication that the past emperor was a pedo and the current one only keeps Lishu around for status because he’s only interested in adult women is an interesting dicatomy. It explains why the emperor‘s mom is so young looking.

One how the doctor got his job, I don't think this is a spoiler as it will be treated as common knowledge, but if you want to stop reading go ahead. Because of a catch 22, the current emperor has stopped the makibg of new eunichs, but only ladies and eunichs can be in the harem palace. So, as the only eunich with any medical knowledge, it falls to him to be the only doctor. Then Maomao appears, but female doctors are still not really recognized at this time.
