Michelle never cared about Trixie wearing blonde hair a majority of the time, for example. yea, the grey hair is a more unusual color so it's easier to notice when it's being repeated, but criticizing a queen's specific brand when it had nothing to do with the actual challenge will never sit right with me.

@@misscalicogirl I think the issue the judges have with stuff like this is because it seems like a gimmick. No one says anything about blonde or brown wigs because they're normal standard hair colours whereas the grey seemed like a schtick to them. I don't agree with that towards Max because the grey wigs were probably already paired with her looks before the season started so it wouldn't look as good without them. An example of a "gimmick" I did agree on was Dusty in season 10. I think her dots are cool but the way she used them in episode 1 didn't work with the look she made

Yes! it’s definitely a Transatlantic accent. For those who aren’t aware - it’s a weird halfway between a British accent and a mid-Atlantic American accent. It was used on TV and in movies back in the eta of black and white TV/movies and a bit after as well.

I never understood the whole Grey hair thing. It pissed me off cuz Max would change up the style of the hair and that should of been enough. Honestly I was glad when Ariana Grande told Max that she had the same hair style for years as well and it was okay. Idk I felt like Michelle was taking it too seriously as if it was a big problem.

I feel like the judges are always really quick to point out and make problematic anything that doesn't fit the established beauty standards of the time, like when they critiqued boy looks, pants on the runway, and in this case grey hair, which they probably found aging or something like that. it's pretty sad because they miss out on exploring new styles of drag that aren't the typical pretty/glam drag until "the times change" and they can't excuse being openly against it.

I totally agree. I do think there’s a difference between having the same hair for different runways which are geared toward fashion and having the same hair as a singer which would work very well for a brand, but drag is ALL ABOUT branding now. Not to mention how there are always inconsistencies with the judging. It makes me sad that rupaul has completely dominated the marketplace for drag queen reality tv. The shows that do exist (and don’t have a lot of the issues that RPDR have) are on KZbin and can’t compete because of how well RPDR is doing with straight audiences now.

I've seen Max live just shortly after she was eliminated in season 7 when she came to Glasgow. Absolutely lovely person! Was an absolute joy to talk to and she made time for everyone that came to see her, she stayed behind after her meet and greet to spend time with everyone. That was when Lawrence Chaney was pictured with her, one of Lawrence's first pushes into the limelight. The grey hair thing is so frustrating. They never give other performers critiques for constantly wearing blonde, they pick and choose who they give critiques for silouettes like how they gave Vanjie flack for the multiple body suits yet Plastique Tiara had the same silouettes throughout the season and got praise for it. I just hope that Max continues to do well in their life and if they want to come full time back into drag then that would be great. If they want to just keep doing on the side every now and then, that's great to.

The accent isn't British, it's Trans-Atlantic (Katherine Hepburn had it) which completely fits with Max's character aesthetic. The grey hair isn't an issue for me; it's her signature. Michelle doesn't really like anyone who stands out and grabs attention more than others. She'll tell someone to not 'repeat' the same type of makeup (like she did with Dusty Ray or Daya Betty) but only of they're an 'alternative' queen. She'll also demand they do 'glamour' if it's not their normal style. However, a 'glamour' queen can do exactly the same type of eye and lip every episode without a single comment. It almost feels like 'bully the weirdo' energy at times, whether intentional or not. 🖤

Max' style is something that I adore. A vintage beauty with a penchant for noir aesthetics, she was dark yet classy, a combination that I don't see a lot, specially for such a young queen. Many seasons of drag race and other drag shows have come and gone, and she stills feels unique. The only ones comparable to her in my opinion are Dovima Nurmi from Drag Race Spain and Enorma Jean from Drag Race Italy, high fashion beauties with grey hair and dark sophistication, but they COULD NOT be more different than Max in attitude, both being too diva-ish for comfort. On that note, it is also frustrating that Dovima doesn't turn looks on instagram, being too busy in petty feuds on twitter, and after her dramatic Willam-esque disqualification, I dont think Enorma will ever appear on the show again. I guess Joe Black as well, but I dont think Ru and her are on goods terms after the H&M fiasco.. When will a queen reclaim the old-hollywood glamour/gothy archetype on the show and have success with it?

Max will always be one of my favorites. I had the absolute honor of meeting her at a live show in Boston a few years back and she was amazingly warm and friendly and so so funny. Raja is a "senior", all the way from Season 3, and apart from it being her second time on the show, it's All Stars, which is way more lenient about the queens taking liberties with the challenges' themes to fit their personal styles or brands. It is pretty unique that Max was Max the entire time on the show. I can see where it would wear on the other competitors. Other queens who do characters (Jinxx, Ben dela Creme, Katya, Jaymes Mansfield) stop doing their character when they aren't in drag. It had to have been exhausting to stay "on" the whole time. I can also see why it kind of made the seeming "breakdown" of the stage moment believable in the edit.

MAX was the reason i started watching drag race and because of that she's still my favorite queen of the franchise. i saw the death becomes her look EVERYWHERE on tumblr, twitter and facebook and i was OBSESSED and i had to check it out. MAX's death becomes her, bearded and green runways are still three of the best looks to grace this show. they're simple, but extremely gorgeous and effective. idc, it's true, fight me. sure she did deserve the bottom 2 on snatch game, but not against jaidynn. miss fame should've landed in the bottom (and probably would've sashayed). but the production knew that max was a threat against the finale they wanted. they knew miss fame would be popular, so they wouldn't want her to leave the show that episode, cause she could go on to the finale. but more precious than fame, they had pearl (wow i'm a poet). and i say this because, even though i love her, pearl was clearly being dragged by the producers to make her way to top 3. if max stayed, pearl's spot on the finale would probably be filled by MAX.

Max was absolutely done dirty. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve built someone up previously if you throw it all in their face and make people think they’ve literally gone insane the next. That might make it worse, because it’s a “how the mighty fall” moment. That part during her elimination should have never been shown in any capacity - she was literally having trouble breathing and needed water. It was a First aid situation not television - but definitely shouldn’t have been cut and edited to make Max look both completely self absorbed and likely insane.

@@GreenGayYT he did, but he’s never going to lose that villain tag. Even with everything we know now (and some people will only ever watch the series and never get any outside context). I think it would’ve been hard to edit Jaremi into a hero, but his edit was dirty. I wonder sometimes how he actually felt about it, deep down, because we see a fairly strong Jaremi on the outside (he moved away from drag, even, though was it because of how he was edited in his appearances or just his time?) And I’d argue that being framed a villain is always going to net you more fans than someone who let the pressure get to them and fell apart.

The gray hair thing is the stupidest critique ever. She's literally playing a character and that's consistency, also no one complains when queens only wear blonde or brunette or pastels. And my guess is that they wanted a young more fashion forward or quirky queen to win (max/violet/pearl/katya) but maybe max wasnt the profile they wanted? The edit thing is also so gross. She was one of the most interesting wueens from that season and i think her shyness/introvertedness is why she hasnt gone to an all stars
