Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for sharing that about your dad passing at the beginning. I’ve been there, it’s not easy, it’s been almost a decade since my dad passed away and I’m still not fully recovered; I don’t think it’s something you can ever move on from. You’re one of my favorite channels on KZbin and I’m so glad I found you a few years back, there’s so much cool and interesting music I would’ve never known about had it not been for you and your content. thanks dude, another great video as always i think the horrorsynth is a very obscure music genre that you could explore, is a familiar of the darksynth, dark synthwave, and while a bit distant, still a familiar of vaporwave it is heavily influenced by darksynth, cyberpunk, with elemnts of 80s/90s horror movies, like sound effects, leitmotivs and a heavy 80s/90s horror imagery, like freddy krueger, halloween, jason and many others there was a radio here on yt featuring 24/7 horrorsynth, but was taken down, now there is a discord server and a spotify playlist, but they lack core and the most important songs of the genre, so it is very difficult to get the difference between related genres and this one, often confusing them this song has spooky, creepy vibes, not falling into goofy tones, not at all, it is more serious, with a touch of sinister melodies, horror sound effects, sometimes screams, sometimes creepy phone calls and much more again, it is a somehow obscure genre, so it could be hard to find real horrorsynth music that is not darksynth or cyberpunk, but any info you could find will be much appreciated
@johncarson6042 ай бұрын
another one i find very interesting is the "as an 80's dark fantasy film" music, featuring dark fantasy music the piece "labrynth of lost dreams" by darren curtis is a great example of this genre, featuring haunting melodies, mysterious ambient, eerie synths, with elements of gothic and medieval influences, often evoking a sensation desolation and the decay of a medieval/fantasy era, it uses minor keys to draw out a sense of longing or sorrow, or even a subtle layer of sadness a very mysterious genre, long ago forgotten, for it was featured in 80s dark fantasy movies, and it is no mystery that this film genre has long ago been forgotten again, a somehow obscure genre, not much info about it, but any genre you want to explore will always be welcome great content as always

I know I've recommended it before, but SWANS deserves a deep dive. They are THE quintessential experiment rock band. You mentioned what specifically to check out, but every album/ep is a bit different in genre, but all have the same focus. The power that sheer sound has. I'd say to go chronologically from their first EP SWANS to their latest album The Beggar. They deserve it. So influential.

This was a great video. Pretty much all the important stuff was mentioned and described perfectly. I would like to say thank you as well for shining a light on my work and asking me about the genre on Twitter and most importantly thank you giving a place for people to discover all these wonderful artists and the genre. You clearly have a great love for the genre. I would also like to say An Hour of Climatewave is a joke album I made in 15 minutes using Audacity lol. I wanted to see if anyone would take something really lazy seriously and I made a fake account to buy it and get it on the front page so it was funny to see it got mentioned. It is just one really long weather channel video slowed down with some added reverb nothing else. I despise that album because it is meant to be bad but I guess it works for some listeners and I am happy about that.

I grew up next to the Santa Catalina mountains is southern Arizona, a mountain range that has radio towers and telescopes and even an old command center for the Titan missile program on it slopes. I was always fascinated by the juxtaposition of all this communication tech at high elevation in these lonely places looking out over endless swaths of desert. I used take photos of them, and even wrote short stories that featured them in the past. It’s so cool that an entire genre has caught up to my once esoteric interest. The sounds match that aesthetic perfectly. Thanks for making these videos!

1:06 If it makes you feel any better, your family probably appreciated you tackling those tasks. Nurses talk about it being a privilege to be present at the last few moments of a person's life, and perhaps in a way it's a kind of privilege to stitch the last loose threads from a loved one's life. I'm sure none of this makes your loss any easier to bear, but perhaps it helps you reinterpret the way you coped with the loss.

Long live Signalwave!! It's a Pad video, time to go listen to 50 albums. Glad you covered this more thoroughly! I started off loving traditional vaporwave years and years ago but signalwave has completely captured me, it teleports me to a place that no other music does. As for a new personal favorite, 1450 kHz at Broken Grove by TV2 has spoken to my soul. For anyone who grew up in rural Pennsylvania or the midwest, and wants to be brought back to late nights on the porch hearing the vague sounds of neighbor's TVs and wilderness blending together...I cannot think of a better place.

Awesome video Pad and a hearty thankyou to every signalwave artist relentlessly and tirelessly bringing us the fuzzy, crackly, broken-down sounds of TV and radio that we once thought lost to time. Being another vaporwave artist from New Zealand I have so much respect for TV2; I was blown away at the range of samples she was able to dig up over different projects, stuff that I didn't even know existed like Hawke's Bay regional TV snippets. There's also one album I'd like to mention that I didn't see brought up: WASTED DIGITAL by Western Digital. I don't know how much it's really considered as signalwave, but it's so distant and hazy and really reminds me of visiting Seattle in 2018. Coming in to land on a rainy night at almost midnight, my first time in the continental US, the comfort of driving through the city feeling like I was inside a vcr-classique album cover. The album captures that essence for me and is one of my all-time favourites

Long Live Signalwave. This is an introduction for me and I look forward to listening to some of the music for the first time. Hell yeah another Signalwave video from our boy Pad :D Amazing that you mentionned most of my top 10 albums in my Bandcamp library. Signalwave is a superb and underrated genre that I can't get enough of. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of signalwave is 傳輸的最後一天(last day of tranfer) by International Telecom, which as i've written as a review on its bandcamp page gives a very nostalgic feeling and reminds me of the times my grandpa would drive me home with classical music in his car that would get very distorted as we'd pass through a tunnel. (it doesn't sound exactly like this but hey maybe i could make my own signalwave haha) Other albums that I love are midnight television by midnight television, somewhat harsh and repetitive sounding (especially the track Blind dates that repeats the same few pop music measures like an alarm clock); "Slideshow" by crt paralysis, which I adore and find nostalgic being a 2000s kid having grew with a DS/Wii/3DS. You didn't mention the fact that each song has their own album art and they all accompany the track with its own visual truly giving lots of different vibes; 愛情のある関係 by ░░disease▒▒. That last one was really cool to find because I expected some super dark, perhaps metal stuff when I looked at the cover but when I took a listen I didn't expect some very chill jazzy sounds; and of course WMCC Weather Channel by Morris County Meteorological Team, the pinnacle of weather channel music. which are the one you talked about. But I wanna mention some others such as Repères by CANAL+ which gives that super mysterious, almost extraterrestrial feel with those samples. I love the calm, detective movie like vibe of the track Attendez; Skywaves EP by EtheReal Media™ There are two of those EPs but I really like the first one. It really captures a feeling of sadness, loneliness and late night/very early mornings with repetitive, empty, distorted melodies; AtNight by International Telecom and especially its first two songs, DarkLight and BroadcastIntermission. This one gives a more hopeful feeling while still having very muted, quiet melodies, almost a lullaby to help you sleep I kinda wanna mention NEXT GEN by CONTOSO, similar to Slideshow it has that y2k nostalgia feel and those crunchy filters as well, although the samples are more groovy and upbeat and it's probably a stretch to call it signalwave; I also wanna mention Castle by 1381 which is medieval-inspired signalwave, kind of a rarity in the scene. It gives you that nostalgia for when the history teacher would put a documentary about knights and kings instead of a regular class on a friday afternoon; Hadn't I been on Bandcamp I probably wouldnt have found all these gems of audio artistic experimentations. Shoutouts to International Telecom for being the name I recognize the most in signalwave music, to CT57 which I always see commenting and supporting other artists' signalwave works (like with reviews on bandcamp), and to liif(i think thats them? havent interacted with them in a while) who is like the one friend i have that likes signalwave too (and who gave me codes for ct57s music 🙏) oh and 1:08:33 Long live signalwave ‼📡🛰

It's always bliss to hear about these unknown artists and sounds that remind you or create fake memories of a life you never had. It makes a nice thing to have...

Probably, my favorite from signalwave/broken transmission stuff is VVVX Software. More futuristic yet same late 90s - early 2000s nostalgia, even he only has one horror-styled signalwave album "Build 307" and as well his another project with more 80s nostalgia called Sport3000. And my favorite from VVVX is the series of "Webカメラ" (more of early 2000s loungy music for Japanese surveillance cameras) and the EP "i - m o d e" (lo-fier and more nostalgic that it sounds similar to menu music for PS2 / Dreamcast games). It's a really nice video essay about signalwave/broken transmission that you did, Pad, and it's great that signalwave community is still alive and well. Hope you're doing well, Pad.

in 2023, also in November, my father died in the week that wormhole was released. it was one of the last things he listened to. from then on, i have made signalwave in his memory. the connections you've made in this video are incredibly valuable. i feel at ease knowing that signalwave is an anodyne to others in their times of loss too.

Great video, I've been trying to get more into Signalwave recently, so this is really useful for some suggestions. Best stuff I've heard is Sentinel by TLWS and TEXT by Sport3000, so maybe I'll give these a shot.

SPEED DIALER ! by INTERNET CLUB really brought me back to a surreal time in my life. Around late 2017, I almost lost my dad. My mom passed away in 2014, and none of my family came to visit us. Constantly being put on hold while talking to nurses is what this album reminds me of. It gives me a weird sense of calming, like before you hear good or bad news, but you know that this is the time to try to decompress.

Normally I'd complain about an hour long video, but I feel like this is a deep dive on one of my favorite genres, thank you. I'll give this a watch soon 😊
