When it comes to the prototype Xbox, it looks cool and all, and it's a really good idea to have a big capital x for a video game console, I don't see where the controllers can be plugged into, I don't see where you would put the game disc, and I bet it would have been difficult to manufacture.

I used to work in Toys R Us in the “R” Zone and remember we opened at midnight for the first XBOX. I even remember we all took pre-order deposit and forced people to buy extra controller and one game which was so stupid. When I bought one myself, I got Halo, Dead or alive 3 and Amped snowboarding. Halo blew me away and so did DOA 3. Then I got Ninja Gaiden Black and House of Dead 3 and it blew the PS2 graphics and Dreamcast away. Ninja Gaiden 3 on the Xbox completely just redesigned and redefined gaming completely! The only problem I had was when it had cross consoles games MS and the devs didn’t improve the graphics. Found out that a lot of the devs were having problems with such an advance system so they just put it on PS2 and port to Game cube and Xbox. However, when Panzer Dragoon came out on XBOX the graphics were amazing. Just disappointed that Sega didn’t work with MS to release games when Dreamcast failed.

Here's what I want for the next Xbox and or other consoles, at lunch, if it's not difficult to manufacture, to have a bright colored video game console, a color that steps away from black, white and grey, I'm done looking at a console that's the color black or white. I wouldn't mind a standard game console was in yellow or safety Orange, I just want to step away from the color black it's just standard game console color.

Interestingly I bought the console for Knights of the Old Republic and I had a really hard time finding anything else worth playing on the console. I think Advent Rising was the next good game I could find. It’s a very difficult console to game on unless you like muddy FPS and action games. Most games were poorly optimized and looked and played poorly compared to PS2.

8 gigabyte was far from impressive back in 2001. I remember I was disappointed the console wasn't PC compatible, had a small harddisk (compared to the 40 gigabyte I already had) and a rather limited CPU (Celeron)

I thought it was a really creative design actually. But not quite enough "box" to the design, which is probably why they ended up changing to the design we actually got. But also, I'm sure the actually original capital X design would've been only for the show, but if they had decided to go with it, I'm sure customers would've been confused about where the controllers plug into and where the disc goes. But I still thought it was a cool looking design. Probably not the best design, but I still think it was neat

I doubt that factored in to it. (Plus, it's _Microsoft,_ ease-of-use is at best, an afterthought.😅) I think it was never considered a design for a final product, much like concept cars. The major obstacle would be cost. Every complexity increases manufacturing costs, and at thousands of units, those add up. Then you have to ship them, and a big X means more volume per unit, which again, add up. Then you finally have the customer; the original Xbox was about the size and shape of a contemporary VCR, which people had room for in their setup. However, something about the same width and depth, but occupying three times the height, is a big difference.

You couldn't use a DISC properly. Thankfully the finalized model was designed for DISCs in mind, and going digital-only wasn't such a good idea.

I'm surprised it actually worked. I just assumed it was a concept prop. It's pretty obvious why the final consumer design didn't look like this. It's much easier to fit components into a rectangle than it is with a weird shape. That's why the vast majority of PCs always end up being rectangular boxes, despite there being more eccentric case designs. And a design like this is pretty polarizing. The OG xbox was a pretty boring design, but it wouldn't cause as much hatred as this would. Look at the PS5. Sony tried a weird design and it is pretty much the most polarizing design in the history of the brand. Game consoles still need to visually harmonize with the things a normal person would have under their TV and even the TV itself.
