A blurry photo is not enough, dive down there and find more evidence for if it is a plane, and if it is the Earhart plane. The angle of the wings could have changed after crashing. Previously human bones were found on this island, only partially studied and lost.

nobody jump to any conclusions yet, the wreck on the sonar could be just a wreck plane from the second world war that was either shot down or if it ran out of fuel.

It's a common misconception that she would have been the first person to circumnavigate the globe or cross the Pacific. Commercial flights across the Pacific were already offered by Pan American Airlines beginning in 1935, two years before Amelia Earhart's disappearance. She failed to accomplish what should have been a routine operation at the time that she attempted it. Her disappearance and the mystery around it is why she's remembered.

she is found. No other aircraft was ever reported in that area. Object is same size and shape. It is her plane. Position last coincides with her last radio messages. Great work Guys.

A lot of planes were over the Pacific during WWII that were either shot down or crashed or thrown off air craft carriers due to extensive damage from air battles.

No! There is too much hype around Amelia Earhart and always has been. She was a wreck last thrill seeker and she gambled with her and Noonans life. The whole thing was a George Palmer Putnam publicity heist..He sold adventure books like snake oil. We by Chareles A. Lindberg was published by George P. Putnam.

Does anyone want to guess how many planes went down in the Pacific in that area during WW2 alone? The sonar scan looks more like a Rosarch test. It would be amazing if they finally found her plane, but I am not holding my breath.

well....above water and in 1 piece and operable...sure. After hitting the ocean surface traveling at speed and then sinking to the bottom, probably not so much. I'm looking at the 'tail' though, looks like an electra to me. Only way to know is to go down and see. Someone needs to be talking to James Cameron.

Every few years somebody makes the same claim. The top view of these sonar images are wrong for the top view of a Lockheed Electra because the wings are too long, wrong planform, and the waist is too long. In addition, ditching would not have swept the wings aft. The Japanese bombed the islands in WW2 and the proportions look closer to a G3M Nell bomber.

No. Landing speed on the Electra was around 65 mph.

This seems to be pretty marginal as evidence. No ID on the plane. No confirmation that it is a plane. If it looks like her plane, it also looks like many other planes. I need more to take this seriously.

Here is something to think about! Since the 1946 treaty signed between the United States and Japan prevented any further prosecutions of Japanese for war crimes of the period 1931-1945 once the treaty was accepted and ratified the Japanese government could make public any information related to the disappearance of Earhart or any other matter that is still under inquiry. HOWEVER! The situation could involve the Japanese government continuing on with the quid pro quo arrangement that has been in existance between the United States and Japan since relations were established in the 1850s in that they could ask the United States to admit publicly that the Pearl Harbor attack and the subsequent attack across the Pacific were known prior to the attack(that it was not a sneak attact), that the bommbings of Hiroshima and Nakasaki were not necessary to end the war and that the United States committed crimes against Japan 1941-1945 as well as actions that led to war 1919-1941. One of which could be that Earhart's flight was a covert spy mission designed to look like a "around the world" flight. The key fact here is that the United States would have to initiate a process that could result in criticism of both sides. Will this occur under Biden. The answer is a resounding NO as it has never been done before and many here and in Japan would oppose such a revelation of past events that could result in an inquiry into present-day events that resulted from those past events. It could for example lead to exposure of the policy of accepting huge bribes of illegal war treasure gained from Germany and Italy as well as Japan in exchange for leaving most of the important war criminals of those nations free. The bribes were not only made to the United States and western governments but also to individuals as well.

No one can dive to 16500 feet. The pressure would implode a human being. Not to mention nitrogen narcosis, known as the bends. The farest anyone can dive is 175 to maybe 300 feet with timed roped ascent to depressurize. Then the oxygen chamber once surfaced. No my friends! This is a job for a remote submersible no one should risk their life for Amelia Earhart even if she was a hero. If they can send a rover to the moon they can send a submersible to Amelia Earhart. She has cost millions of dollars to the taxpayers and the government already. A robot is the only answer at that depth. Just like Titanic it must be photographed and or raised by robot. Dr. ROBERT BALLARD SHOULD ASSIST BUT HE MAY DECLINE AS HE IS PROBABLY TOO OLD AND RETIRED. I DO NOT WISH TO GET DR. BALLARD IN TROUBLE. IM ONLY SUGGESTING DR. BALLARD AS HE HAS SO MUCH EXPERIENCE. OUR NAVY WOULD PROBABLY BE THE BEST BUT WERE INVOLVED WITH A WAR AT THE MOMENT. ITS FUNNY! SHE DISSAPEARS PRIOR TO WWII AND GETS FOUND AGAIN JUST PRIOR TO WWIII! IM ONLY SURMISING. SHE MAY NOT IN FACT BE FOUND. THE GENTLEMAN WHO HAS GIVEN UP HIS LIVLYHOOD AND IS FORMER AIRFORCE INTELLIGENCE WOULD SEEM A LOGICAL CHOICE.THERE SHOULD BE SIMEONE WHO HAS PRIOR SALVAGE KNOWLEDGE TO HELP HIM I WOULD THINK. AND HE MAY HAVE TO HOLD OFF BECAUSE OF THE IMPENDING CONFLICT. THERE IS PERHAPSE A 50 /50 CHANCE THAT THAT IMAGE REPRESENTS NR16020. I HOPE SHE IS FOUND BUT WILL NOT GET MY HOPES UP TOO HIGH.

This is precisely what the Japanese would have us believe so the story about Earhart and Noonan being murdered by the Japanese army will lose credibility. Many planes crashed and sank in that area between 1937 and 1945.
