What I think is... The people who lived in the island made these statues and kept it in the edge of the island to showcase it as warriors guarding the island.. might be to scare away someone or something who tried to enter the island! And also they made more statues and spread it all over the island to scare away someone or something which comes from the aerial route.. Possible? Just a theory

To be honest can’t believe that early human were capable of making such a massive statues without proper tools and infrastructures, but at some point, it may be true. Let me put an example. In some religion, people has to make a kind of statue whenever a family member dies. Kind of tribute or remembrance. So in that aspect I think it was indeed made by early humans. As anything is possible.

Thank you for providing amazing information.As far as Easter Island is concern it seems that the island when expose from the ocean it attract ppl from surrounding islands and populated from thereon. Statues might be carved when there were mountains and there faces might reflect the protector at the boarders and faces towards inner part could be the common ppl citizens. Afterward the island submerge in the ocean due to high tides and remain beneath the ocean which then reimerge leaving only the giant statues ....
