I am not yet homeschooling, but have seriously considered it for next school year. I have been looking at this curriculum, so your video was right on time!

Hi Janelle 👋, Quick question. Is Volume 2 of Mystery of History skewed toward Protestantism or Catholicism? Thanks for your response.
@noramcnabb13613 жыл бұрын
I heard it is very anti-Catholic. Such a shame since it is the only church made by Jesus.
@user-vg8ez9cu6u3 жыл бұрын
@@noramcnabb1361 Wow. I did not know that. Thank you for responding. Do you own the Mystery of History Curriculum? I just want to be sure it's a fact and not a rumor that it's slanted toward Protestantism. Thanks.

Yes, MOH takes a protestant view. Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for sharing. It helps me a lot. Does The Mystery of History have teachers' manual? I didn't find it on its website.
@maisieliberty13193 жыл бұрын
The teachers manual is called companion guide and should come with it. :)

Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful. Regarding a history curriculum, do you have any review for mfw Creation to Greeks? Im considering that one or the first year of mystery of history. They both look great but not sure what approach to take . My kids will be going to 4th and 7th grade. Started homeschooling in the fall and started with MFW ( cultures) which is great . However, I would like to hear your input or advice on it. Thank you so much !

This was very helpful. I'm using Volume:1 next fall for my 2 boys 8 and 5 years old. I do have a question, do I need to purchase the Bible and the History atlas for the first 2 volumes?

Are you still using this Janelle? Would you recommend to start with volume 1 for grade 1 History - or is that a bit early to start?
@JanelleKnutson6 жыл бұрын
We are not using it this year but really enjoyed it and will probably use it in the future with other kids. If your oldest child is in 1st grade then, yes, I think it is a little early to start MOH. Younger kids can join in on group learning but will not understand or retain as much so I recommend starting it when your oldest (or only) child is at least 2nd grade. I'd personally wait to start until 3rd. Hope that helps!

You can use it for younger grades. But I wouldn’t recommend it it might be to boring for younger kids.

Did you use MOH for highschool?
@JanelleKnutson6 жыл бұрын
I have only taken one child through high school so far and we did not use MOH because she had already started on another curriculum (Worldviews of the Western World by Cornerstone). I think MOH would work well for high school though.

@@JanelleKnutsonI'm always amazed at the huge variety of curricula out there. I hadn't heard of that one until just now. Thanks!

Thanks for the review Janelle. I know this is not a secular program, and although we are a Christian family, I prefer secular or close to secular homeschool resources. Is it heavy in religious content?
@JanelleKnutson7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is quite heavy in Christian worldview.

Thank you :)

You're welcome. :) If you are looking for a chronological history curriculum that includes Christian events without making a distinction between one religion/culture/ideas over another then you might want to look into Story of the World.

Yes - thanks we are using SOTW with our Bookshark History. Love SOTW.

Hannkg Note: Historical inaccuracy in SOTW Vol.1 Ancient Times in Chaper one labled the "earliest people". Contadictory to Susan Wise Bower and this curriculum, The Bible teaches us that the earliest people were farmers and herders, NOT nomads.We know that people were already living in cities during Cain's life and by Genesis 4, people were forging tools of bronze and iron. So I would read the book with a grain of salt. I have heard many people mention that there are many historical inaccuracies in this. I have further research to do. This was my first choice for my kids curricula since I liked the intersting way they make the stories, but now I am dissapointed. I hear some people just skip Vol.1 and start at Vol.2.

Do you still use Mystery of History?
@JanelleKnutson6 жыл бұрын
We are not using The Mystery of History this year. My daughter made it through the last volume last year and we decided to focus on civics/American government this year. We loved using it though and it is one that I will consider using again with my younger crew in the future.

Very helpful and timely! Thank you! We always plan our next years curriculum now (as we use Christmas money towards school). We have been using story of the world for 2 years, but it focuses a lot on idols and the worldly religions, and shows no preference at all it seems for Christian views. I’d like both, and I’ve heard mystery of history shows a preference for Christianity while also discussing secular history chronologically (which I favor). Do you or anyone else have any other descriptions on comparing them? Thank you kindly!
@JanelleKnutson7 жыл бұрын
I have used both MOH and SOTW. You are correct that SOTW, while including Christianity, does not make a distinction between it and other cultures/religions. MOH definitely tells the story of history from a biblical worldview. Here are a few other differences: SOTW is geared toward younger ages, reads like a story, not a lot of details/facts, much shorter lessons. MOH is geared toward upper elementary and junior high, reads more like a mother telling her kids about events/people/ideas throughout history, lots of details and facts, longer lessons. Hope that helps!
@gratituderanch94067 жыл бұрын
Janelle Knutson fantastic delineation! Hadn’t heard that before. Anyway you could do a video on differences between them? You have been more specific than I’d heard anyone else be!

I'm homeschooling one child. We're going to use MOH 2. I was planning on having the spine cut off (or just remove all the pages) and put in a notebook. Since I'm doing that I really wouldn't need to purchase the companion cd, right?
@amandaarmstrong46265 жыл бұрын
For volume two it has all the lessons, quizzes, and activities. Volume 3 and 4 you will need the the cd.
