I love how you talked about LRDs and explored the paper by Labbé et al. My advisor from undergrad (Kate Whitaker) is a collaborator on that paper and I spotted a couple of her students on the paper as well. For her class I actually wrote a paper on LRDs, more specifically how LRDs were thought to be brown dwarfs in the foreground contaminating really distant surveys like JADES, etc. Anyway thanks for the news Becky!

About those supermassive black holes: since the first stars presumably formed from clouds of only hydrogen, helium, and lithium, wouldn’t the resulting stars be incredibly massive by the time fusion started? Would such a star’s black hole be massive? Could those be the seeds for the SMBH?

[23:12] The actual figure given in the Tripodi paper is 1.0E8 solar masses for the LRDs, which is 100 million, not 10 million as Dr Becky said. I think that this was just a "speak-o". Regardless, it doesn't make the SMB's mass any easier to achieve so early in the universe's life.
