My Mom died at 27 from an infection that crept into her comprised immune system due to heavy steroids therapy for MS. She was a nurse, a mother of three, and a doll designer. It's been nearly 40 years and I still miss her everyday.

I'm surprised one of the newest members of the 27 Club, Chance Perdomo, wasn't mentioned in this video. I'm certain that his recent death is the reason why WatchMojo decided to make this video. When I saw Chance Perdomo's death mentioned on the news almost two months ago, I was sad and angry that the 27 Club had a new member. I immediately thought about Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse. I also wondered why this sad club keeps gaining new members so I'm glad this video helped explain this phenomenon.

Statistically there is no significant peak at 27. However I wonder if this was true back in the 60s and 70s where most of the 27 club started? Could be a concept that was true but has since changed but a majority of us have not turned our minds around.

Jimi was tragic - a young virtuoso guitar player gone early. He died in the fall of 1970. Janis was sort of our Amy Winehouse - she died maybe a month after Jim did. Jim Morrison however was different - a whole lot of people though he faked his death because it would have been consistent with his character. L.A. Woman was released in the spring of 71 - he was off to Paris already, and he was dead before midsummers. And of course, a lot of people didn't want to believe another rock star had died. I was more shocked when John Lennon died in 1980. How could that happen? He was a BEATLE.

John Lennon was assassinated because of what he said in 1966 about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus. The guy who murdered him, shot and killed just for that and he was reading this book called the catcher and the rye

Many of them overdosed but Brian Jones laid drunk at the bottom of a pool. There was a movie called Basquiat Starring Jeffrey Wright as the artist and David Bowie as Andy Warhol who was his good friend and mentor. It was both beautiful and Sad

I can't believe they left out so many members : Gram Parsons, Nick Drake, Otis Redding, Randy Rhodes (guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne), and Hillel Slovak (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), not to mention AVICII, Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon, Bradley Nowell of Sublime, and the 1950s rock'n'roll star Big Bopper who all died at age 27. Wait, did I say 27? I meant age 26 or 28. All those people I mentioned died within the year they turned 26 or or within the year they turned 28. There's nothing special about the age 27.

I understand the trauma of mental illness, mainland because I myself have mental illness. However I do find it hard to feel a lot of empathy for the famous people who died so young, because they had everything. They had money they had time they had connections they had accessibility to doctors and medicine and treatment. Whereas a nobody like me has barely access to anything and that makes it so much harder to keep going. They could have stopped being famous at any time. Gone home and gotten back to normal again. But instead, they turned their back on everyone and everything they had to help them. It's just not right.

I met Kurt Cobain as a kid in New York in 1993 he was meeting a group of school age fans. You can argue that mental health and addiction are much better today but the truth is that it's about the same as the 1970s. The truth is people have other addictions that are almost as bad which have become normalized, and cancel culture which is not helping mental health.
