THE MYSTERY OF THE MAP: PART II | Vintage Polly Pocket Collection

It's been about 10 months since we had a look at this play mat. This Pollyville Map playmat has been an elusive mystery. Our best guess? A Canadian mail-away exclusive. However, it's yet to be confirmed. In fact, I've yet to come across anyone else who owns this (if you do, please let me know so we can compare notes!)
Now that my Pollyville collection is near-complete, we're revisiting the map to see if we can piece this puzzle together a bit more.

I really would love to see this map scanned digitally somehow so other people can try their hand at fitting things to it. I wonder if measuring each space in cm or mm and then measuring each pollyville set and by numbers see what fits? I keep wondering at what parts are "meant" to be covered and what isn't in the grassy spaces.

Have you thought about trying to contact Mattel and ask them for any information? Lots of companies have archives departments with employees who'd enjoy the mystery too.

I def feel like houses in the bottom right especially bay window house. Remember the other sidewalks curve bits overlap the lines on the hospital and grocery store.

It makes a lot more sense if the pink sidewalks of the sets overlap the pink sidewalks on the map! Looks much more seamless. So I think some of the ones you think are “too big” fit just right. See how the hospital one overlaps even though it’s obviously the right spot. And irl side walks are in straight lines, not double layer in front of buildings, if that makes sense. Try to line the sidewalks up instead of fitting the whole set perfectly in the green rectangles!

Both the hospital and the supermarket fit exactly in the square including the sidewalk. It's only the round part that sticks out a bit. I think it wouldn't make sense when a lot of these would cover the details on the sidewalks either.

How about, the school goes in the middle right part. That the hedge fences of the school playground? The rounded sidewalk works there. I cant see the size from here, but maybe try and fit that?

I love this mistery 😄 I did send you a DM on Insta a while ago about the Mistery of the Map part 1 where I found an Image on a Polly Pocket annual Book that seems to look quite like the Map. There you can see how the houses where placed in that book so maybe it helps you with this map :) let me know If i should send you the picture again cause I did not receives a message back on Insta

I would switch the hotel in the school around because the school needs a playground not a swimming pool in the hotel the swimming pool makes more sense right and since there's a slide On the school it makes sense that it goes with the park the play structure

I feel like the shape of the school base doesn’t fit in that space. The chapel fits much better!

School is definitely in the right place imo, just needs to turn so the corner of the set is aligned with the corner on the mat :)
