Your whole thing about the dark colored shine sprites reminds me of one track in the Pac-Man racing game that's a haunted house where it's implied that's where the ghosts live and inside it there's a chapel. Thing about it is that it has a stained glass window with a Pac-Man looking devil. Swanky you're definitely right in my book. You even proved yourself right. "Luigi's mansion has doors but was built for ghosts" no no no it was built to trap and lure beings that still needed to use doors. A building built entirely for evil spirits wouldn't need doors or anything else and the central point of the hidden floor is reminiscent of a cult summoning circle. Summoning circles work just fine in place of doors.
@carlosdasilva24094 жыл бұрын
Your theory could be right, specially if we take in account the "gates room" which is the room with the four gates, now that room also has a circled pattern floor. The gates are fully drawn as if they could close, so maybe the reason why they never close with players is that they aren't made to trap people. So when the gates close, the circle becomes a portal (with suction so whatever gets in doesn't escape) and gets "Summoned" to the central building. It could serve as three things: Trap evil spirits inside a house made for non human creatures Serve as a prison for REALLY bad people Or maybe it is just a discrete way for the "cultists" to get into the central house.

I'm still surprised that this isn't talked about more. Twighlight House is such an enigmatic stage, and there's no real official info from Nintendo to explain it. The map's in Mario Kart Tour, but that ultimately simplified it and made it less scary (you can't even fall off the edge). I'm intrigued by the spiky gates extending far enough into the model for them to technically be able to lock the player in. Maybe at one point the devs were experimenting with a precursor to the Renegade Roundup in Mario Kart 8 but scrapped it when they couldn't figure out how to put a cage in any of the other maps, or maybe it would be a cruel trap exclusive to Twighlight House. Who knows? I'd love to see the Mario Kart DS or Wii devs asked about it, or if any beta content reveals the origins of the map.

The surrounding structures of the level aren't meant for the inhabiting spirits to reside, but rather areas that draw in soon to be victims. Exploration eventually leads mortals to the cage room, dropping down and ensuring they are forever at the mercy of the otherworldly inhabitants.

It's a teleporting stage like mario 64 levels, where it requires player the wope into, so no need for any accessible way to get inside 3. The dark side of mario sunshine, the thing balance with hope since everything has its counterparts 4. The rumor behind the story of Luigi's mansion 5. The developer can't think of any new maps ideas, so make a map with 101 questions

I’d like to think, as a longtime Zelda fan and historian...that Twilight Sprites and the fact that this exists on an Ethereal Plane that is cast in a constant state of dusk...that this is the Lorulean counterpart of Delfino...let’s give it a Beta name like Lunam. As Delfino had the Shine Sprites to keep their sunny days, Lunam requires the Twilight Sprites to retain their state of dusk...hence the reason why they have the imagery on the buildings as a form of idolatry. Here’s to our overactive imaginations!

Aren't you confusing Lorule with the Twilight Realm? I mean, it's a cool theory, just pointing this out.
@CrystaJoy4 жыл бұрын
@@ClockworkChandelure No. Although I understand why you would think that from the usage of my word “Twilight” (I thought it was a cool sounding name from someone else who posted the name in another thread) allow me to explain. Lorule is the Dark World equivalent to Hyrule, which is canon...hence why I made that comparison. The Twilight realm is not a mirror image of Hyrule, but is instead a land formed by the Twili when they were banished for the utilization of “dark magic”. They aren’t two sides of the same coin, nor do they use the same item to exist like Hyrule and Lorule do in terms of the Triforce. You can argue that they have the mirror, but the mirror is only a transportation method...not a means for governance or existence. The mask that is used by Midna is not used by any Hyruleans, so there is no commonality between them. Yes, in the game you gather items such as the tears for the light spirits...but, again that is due to the Twili invasion as opposed to actual congruence. This theory is based on this being a Dark World equivalent of Delfino, which operates on the same fundamentals as Delfino. So, if Delfino needs Shine Sprites to retain their sunshine...then Lunam would need their Sprites to retain their darkness as the opposite of Delfino. That was all.
@ClockworkChandelure4 жыл бұрын
@@CrystaJoy a couple things- the twilight realm wasn't shaped by the twili, it was the other way around. The ancestors of the twili (be it the sheikah, the zonai or whatever other tribe the dark interlopers belonged to) got exiled in the twilight realm, which eventually turned them into the twili. Also the Dark World was the corrupted version of the Sacred Realm after Ganondorf got the Triforce and defeated Link in the decline timeline, while Lorule had its own triforce before the lorulean royal family destroyed it.
@CrystaJoy4 жыл бұрын
@@ClockworkChandelure I consider the Twili to be the descendants of the Dark Interlopers, therefore it is their realm through inheritance. They created the realm, but the realm does not have any similarities to Hyrule in its shaping, belief structure...etc. With regards to Lorule, they degraded into the “Dark World Corrupted” version through corruption and war, but that still doesn’t negate the fact that their origins are rooted in similar ideological origins as Hyrule...especially with the Triforce. When it comes to a Link Between Worlds, the game itself...Lorule is the Counterpart to Hyrule...so to speak. Two sides of a coin...it is considered to be a dark parallel world to Hyrule. This is the basis for my theory. That this Twilight House is a part of a Parallel World of Delfino. It operates under the same premise of Delfino, but with dusk instead of shine. Lorule is a dark world mirror of Hyrule. It isn’t actually the Dark World, but it is a world steeped in darkness. I mean, I understand you are trying to “educate” me, but I have played the games and also own Hyrule Historia and am well aware of the timelines, but what you are insinuating is not applicable to this particular theory. This is not the Twilight Realm. This is merely a parallel version of Delfino that is steeped in darkness and instead of worshipping the Shine Sprites as their form of idolatry, they worship the Sprites that would be the Dusk Sprites (since Twilight Sprites is causing some debate)
@SolariusLunarius Жыл бұрын
I mean, the name of the place kinda explains why there are negative shine sprites in it. Twilight House. We don't know the details, but it stands to reason that the "twilight version of the shine sprites" are here, whether they are intrinsically twilight sprites, or just shine sprites that have expanded most of their energy and come here to die or recharge, or broken shine sprites that need repair.

I don’t care what people say, twilight house is the best battle course in Mario kart history, the risk of going outside, you could fall off, but you avoid most of the chaos that is in the 8 rooms of the mansion, but if your a light weight, you’re better off staying inside the house to pick off the slow players with shells. It’s not too open, like palm beach and tart top, meaning you can’t just randomly fling red shells from across the map and they will hit someone anyways. Truly the pinnacle of game design.
@XJ-06413 жыл бұрын
I like the idea that the twilight house is a house for ghosts. You bring up the disparity of doors between Luigi's Mansion and the Twilight House, but I will argue that (at least in the japanese version), the Haunted Mansion existed in a ghostless state as a regular mansion before the events of the game. It was a human mansion made for humans, which was later inhabited by ghosts. The Twilight House could be a house made by ghosts, _for_ ghosts. Furthermore, if we do go by the us version, then the Haunted Mansion was made as a trap for the Mario Brothers. Pretty hard to trap someone somewhere if you cant get them inside. International Luigi's Mansion was made by ghosts, yes, but it was still designed with humans in mind.
@user-un3gh9fu8f3 жыл бұрын
i think your theory about the spirits is correct because the luigi mansion was not made for ghost specifically it was suposed to trap mario and luigi meaning a human "luigi" was meant to get inside meanwhile in here we dont know why it was created so it maybe did not need human inside so that why its all walls

I like the idea of negative shine sprites, especially when you look at the purpose of the normal ones. They bring light to Isle Delphino, but why is it so dark without them? Nowhere else is veiled in darkness without them, but perhaps that's just it. My theory would be that this house exists somewhere on Isle Delphino. These negative Shine Sprites, or twilight sprites (Shade sprites?), are gathered there and constantly release waves of darkness that cover the whole island. The Shine Sprites had to be created/found and gathered at the Shine Gate in a mass equal to or greater than the mass in this house in order to counteract the energy they release. However, no one has seen or approached the twilight house in so long that it isn't even a myth anymore. The need for shine sprites on Isle Delphino has simply become a fact of life for the residents. They know nothing of the actual problem that rests somewhere on the problem, they only know the temporary solution. Another possibility is that they DO know of the house, but they believe it will be a problem of the past shortly. They sent a hero to destroy it, but that hero has yet to return. However, the residents refuse to give up. They believe that if they simply wait, their hero will return. The only question is; how long can the shine sprites last against this seemingly endless assault of darkness?

It's my crazy headcannon, that the house in the center is some sort of sacrificial chamber, while the gated portion is a holding cell for victims. How do people get up on the platform? And more importantly, how do they get down? Or perhaps the inverted shines are meant to be a combination of day and night, thus fitting the mood of twilight. Maybe the house is built in a land with an eternal sunset. Maybe time is frozen, or maybe the land is constantly following the light of the sun, and very slowly going into darkness.

Alright, before I watch, I'm gonna say I always thought it was an old manor from Twilight Town. Adding on to your thought that a manor for ghosts wouldn't need doors, Luigi's Mansion does not necessarily conflict with that thought. The residents there were all living beings at some point, so of course it's a more... "normal" Mansion. But a Manor specifically _built_ for spirits wouldn't need to worry about that.
@NekoJCat4 жыл бұрын
most of the ghost houses are intended for people to come in, luigi's mansion for example , it is a trap for living things, it has to have a door. if they don't want people to come in, they don't make one.

I think some of the eeriness comes from the fact this acts as a bit of a liminal space. While it doesn't, say, normally have it's layout filled with other things, it is similar enough to other haunted themed maps that the lack of such detail gives off an eerie vibe.

A house with windows and bars but no doors? Sounds like a prison or something similar intended to keep something from getting out.
@BlackFantasy4704 жыл бұрын
Luigis Mansion had doors before this maps were created. Surely they reused assets for the MK tracks (including doors). The Twilight House is a whole different thing. Why are there no doors but those Dark Shine emblems? There has probably been a cult or something similar using this place. At that time there was a door of some kind but it has been sealed off by extending the wall to where the door was. Or maybe there is a secret hidden door inside the wall that's barely visible and can only be opened by special means.
@RaveNinja14014 жыл бұрын
The Twilight House might be actually a prison for the dark sprites, this because while the shine sprites bring hope to the inhabitants of Isle Delfino, dark sprites might instill DESPAIR instead, so it only makes sense to try and contain them instead of let run rampant.
@JesusLopezPrado96014 жыл бұрын
That does make sense, but the thing is this place seems to represent the twilight sprites. If it was built to capture them, then the place should not represent them. It would look different from them, but that is my speculation.

I loved Mario Kart DS as a kid, and one of my favorite parts was the battle mode - still, out of all the tracks, I would go out of my way to avoid the Twilight House. It wasn't even that it scared me, I just always felt like it was... off, somehow. You did a really great job of explaining how the track's design gives it this real sense of foreboding.

Or, more likely- the designers just weren’t really trying for this one, hence the exclusion of doors and nonsense architecture.

I know I’m a bit late, but I have a theory about the dark shine sprites. What if it has some connection to the dark star in Bowser’s Inside Story, or possibly linked to a parallel universe, similar to how Lorule had a parallel Triforce? Or maybe linked to the Black Paint as we have seen in Paper Mario Color Splash and Bowser’s Fury. And Bowser’s Fury was linked to Super Mario Sunshine through Bowser Jr’s paintbrush, when he accidentally created black paint. So black paint could have theoretically existed in Super Mario Sunshine. Perhaps the black paint could have formed a blasphemous symbol of a dark shine sprite, to invoke fear and chaos into the hearts of all in it’s power. Just my ideas. And one more thing. I think I know why this house doesn’t have doors, but all of the Luigi’s Mansion buildings do (save for one room in the Gloomy Manor and a few others I may have forgotten). Originally, all of the mansions form the Luigi’s Mansion series had humans living in it at one time, or were directly intended as a trap for humans (And otherwise solid living beings such as toads). If this building was built BY Spirits FOR Spirits, and no human (or otherwise) intervention was desired, than no doors would have been implemented. And we do know that Ghosts in the Mario universe can build, as we saw at the end of Luigi’s Mansion 3 where everyone including the ghosts pitch in to rebuild their home. So theoretically, your initial idea about it being a home for Spirits and Ghosts could be very much true. And great video by the way. This was the first of your content I watched, almost a year ago when it came out (and now you are one of my favorite KZbin creators ever, so thanks a billion for giving me some awesome videos to totally need out on). It didn’t occur to me to comment at the time, so I did it now.

My favorite thing about this stage when playing as a kid was that if you were a heavy character like Bowser or D.K. and have a mushroom on hand you can patrol along the edges and punt off anybody else who tried to pass you into the endless void below. To put it simply if you are playing on this stage as Toad and or Dry Bones you are to avoid driving along the edges at all costs.

This is a really good video ngl✨✌️ but when i played the Twilight House in Mariokart Wii when i was still little, I never found it spooky, I was curious about the blood red Sunset and the woods and what might be lurking in the forest…I always thought that the twilight house might just be a Guest house or something or a House for travelers to stay in for the night I was Today years old when i found out about the place called Twilight town which is shrouded in mystery or smthing
