The Naked Island (1960) directed by Kaneto Shindo a very influential and important Japanese filmmaker. This film is interesting because it has no lines of dialogue, it is not a silent film but there is no talking. This film is very courageous because it sticks faithfully to the very limiting technique of never having the actors speak words and in doing so the impact of this film is very strong. Some consider this movie as a metaphor for the situation in Japan on the global stage but the movie also works as a more simple allegory for human survival.
