This anthem hits deep. During the protests I have learnt and interpreted a lot of struggle songs of which carry powerful messages and strange enough still apply to current situations. This shows that the struggle is still being fought for.

This song takes me back to the painful times of financial exclusion at university little did i know it was millions of us black south african students at various universities who were financially excluded. then a week later fees must fall began at CUT, WITS, UKZN,UP and yes the Godfathers TUT. We marched and we fought tirelessly we had gatherings at night as students and we embarked on the greatest war of student financial exclusion. 2016 what a year that shaped

The reason for the amendment in the National Anthem and the incorporation of "Die Stem" is based on the settlement reached in 1994. People chose compromise and peace instead of all out civil war. The current anthem is the perfect metaphor; that what was once separate races can be forged into a single nation - and while that is still a long way off, it remains worthy goal.

I was a 16 year old when Black and Coloured kids were finally allowed into our school. Our headmistress organised that we learn nkosi sikelel iafrika but obviously as a bunch of mostly white kids we totally sucked. So the music teacher asked those who knew the hymn to come up to the stage to show the rest of us how it was supposed to be sung. To this day I remember the goosebumps. (I also wish the "uit die blou" and the "come together" nonsense would just be edited off the national anthem already.) (Is boring. It's been almost thirty years. No one cares about the old anthem anymore.)

Then go back to your decolonised world. Ever thought how backwards RSA would be without other countries? Stop thinking you can do everything by yourselves.

No Craig, go back to Europe where your ancestors come from. Don't be so arrogant that you now forget that this world is what it is thanks to African slavery and abuse by your marauding ancestors. Without the violence of slavery upon Africans the world wouldn't have seen development as quickly as it has. Stop whining like a you are some sort of European reject, you are free to leave Africa. This is a much better anthem by Africa for Africa.

This "HYMN" had a focus on God and Africa being helped by him. If u seperate this from God, you might as well sing the Rainbow Nation version. Not this Azania version.

True. The biggest lie was making Africans believe that God is white, and that they never had God before colonialism. Africans need to know their identity but always aligned with God's will.

You are asking why the anthem was amended? The answer is the elders generally lack the courage to correct the wrongs. Another reason is that our elders have been too "cautious" not to offend the white masters, as a result our elders are always too eager to bend backwards at their own expense. That's why today you sing Die Stem as your anthem.
