@@ripelivejam well he would be right. I dont think there is anyone in this world who is a parent and didnt go through the pain of fucking up your kid in one way or another. Some less then others, buts its just how it goes.

Matt's lyrics consistently manage to find a line between sad and silly, classy and goofy. This video captures that perfectly.
@kubrickking51016 жыл бұрын
Tinydude10 agree completely, but I’d add that he can be/often is very poetic as well, when he wants to be. I like how he doesn’t over use it so to speak. Perfect balance of ambiguity/strangeness/awkwardness/abstractness vs. humanness/everydayness/genuineness/simplicity. The verses contrasted with the prechorus/chorus in this song display this very vividly.

Honestly, what the fuck IS the line "This one's like your mother's arms when she was young and sunburnt in the 80s, that last forever." Stupefyingly beautiful; the idea that you could find the warmth of your mother's sun kissed arms in ANYTHING else, to see it in anything at all outside of the fleeting memory of it, to me, is, a staggering idea. And that's just one line of this song. Completely rocked to my core.
@elliemartin5076 жыл бұрын
For some reason the lines 'This one's like your mother's arms when she was young and sunburnt in the 80's' really gets to me. It gives this idea of memory and the passing of time. It makes me think about how my current state of being will pass, and I'll look back and remember these times that I'm in now.

I first heard these guys via Bloodbuzz on prog radio in 2010. I thought it was pretty good, so I researched the band's ouevre and discovered Bloodbuzz wasn't all that impressive compared to their earlier genius. In particular, I loved the quirky construction of classics like All Dolled up in Straps or Bitters & Absolut. What would it be like if the National ever composed a brilliantly quirky song that would still work in the large arena phase of their career? This is that song.
