this album more than any other is really summing up why "the national" is such a renowned band: you can't always understand what the words mean, but you understand exactly what the feeling means
@buraktanonerge68515 жыл бұрын
Pretty much my experience as well. I had never even heard of the band until one late night when I was shuffling through a random playlist. Listened through a damn list of over fifty mediocre-at-best songs just to learn the name of the song and the band, even though I didn't understand a word at first hearing

Walk it back defined: Retract a statement; reverse an action or decision. Example: When a politician such as (Bush, Trump, or Karl Rove) makes an idiotic statement that reflects his real opinion has it pointed out how stupid, racist, homophobic, etc. his comment was, uses a form of time travel to "walk it back" & say something less idiotic to replace his original statement. The Karl Rove quote used in the song basically states that reality based community (aka people who demand fact and truth over religion or opinion) are wasting their time. Rove pointed out that we are an empire now (absolute control over a person or group) This quote was made in the Bush era right before Trump entered with his alternative facts, fake news, and out right lies. it’s an admission of the plan to change the nature of what we understand as truth, and do that through the media, radio, and propaganda. I call it Government Gaslighting. “Once you control the idea, control the people understanding this reality, then you can do whatever you want." That’s what Karl Rove was saying 10 years ago. Trump is the product of a very long game plan for conservatism and religious extremism. Corporate interest. Figuring out a plan to change what we understand as truth, and that’s why we’re in this state where no one knows what to think or feel or believe. Basically "what if we can lie and get away with it, we win" Scary stuff. The entire quote: “People like you are still living in what we call the reality-based community. You believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality. That’s not the way the world really works anymore. We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you are studying that reality-judiciously, as you will-we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors, and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do." Time for society to wake up and pay attention!

@@lisacrummett498 I just want to extend my gratitude to one who put her mind AND heart into such a complete and compelling comment. I really could not agree with you more! As a radical leftist Socialist (see: Jacobin), seeing no consequence for the people that create a reality that harms nearly all of us, we the people fall further and further under the control of whomever owns the current narrative. Its harrowing. Its horrific. It has serious consequences. I live in NorCal, 40 miles from CAs 2nd Mega Fire of the year. The term Mega Fire did not exist until 2018. And while most Carifornians understand the DIRE effects of our climate devastation; they simply dont know where to go or what do so we get ahead of true Statewide destruction. These same decent people feel there is nothing they can do to compel change. Oh but there is! Beyond casting your vote, WE HAVE to push back actively against the layered systems that would leave us feeling stuck in this reality: one where Democracy has become Corpocracy. One in which terrorists stormed D.C. staged a deadly coup. One where division of all sorts scare we the people from lifting up the "other." ANY other. Time to do the best we can by using our "giftings" to engage in meaningful and sustainable social inequality and injustice solutions. It's our choice. Not theirs. It time... I'm with you, all in! I wish you health and strength. In solidarity, Maria

Okay this song has overtaken Day I die, guilty party, i’ll destroy you, etc like this song is talking about climbing out of depression, redirecting focus on yourself if you spent too much time on people who are not treating you right, the speech part seems to talk about creating your own reality through law of attraction affirmation manifestation because when we focus on ourselves energy is directed back at ourselves and thats when the universe will work to give you what you deserve, this song has so many layers and honestly not trying to sound like im above others but only people who have been through lifes ups and down would understand the National and songs like these, thank you ❤

As a The National for over an decade, all there songs are so special. You can have so many interpretation about their songs and their lyrics. Some people say all their songs are like the same, but I strongly disagree with that. Yes there are common and reoccuring theme's like love, mental health, leaving your parent's house, politics and much more. But they all are for me at least very emotional, touching and moving. And the lyrics resonate with me personally like a lot
