I’m so ready to re-gear my Jeep and your videos have been a big help. I have all the tools I need to do it myself, have already done the lift/suspension, SYE, new shaft, etc. I have a 89 Wrangler with a Dana 35 in the rear and a Dana 30 in the front with factory 3.07 gears, Peugeot BA transmission (I know, booo) and a NP231 txfr and 4.2l engine. I just put 33x12.5 tires in steel 15” wheels. Factory tires were about 28”. I’ve done the formula to figure out new gears I need but am not sure it’s enough, it comes out to 3.61 (will have to round up to 3.73) but I’ve seen where folks are saying to go up to either 4.11 or 4.55 with 33”s. I would greatly appreciate your opinion on what I would be happy with. It’s going to be a city driver for the most part but we want to get into some off-roading as well but very conservative considering the axles I have at the moment. No money for anything else right now. Thanks again and look forward to a reply.

Heck yeah awesome video man, I was wondering about this with my 98 xj 5 speed, the one I changed the rear to the 29 spline 8.25 out of a 99 3.55s and I also went and changed the whole front hp30 same before but not with 3.07s, is way better alternative everything has been great so far, I have done everything on an xj except gears and this help out a lot man good confidence video 👍, wanting to change up at point and don't want to pay a shop .

Do you need a pinion depth gauge, or is there a cheaper way of "winging it"?

Hey m an I know it's not on the same subject but would you happen to have a diagram for an np231 for a 99 xj?

@@cherokeeronnie I have a bad pinion bearing. Do I need to redo the whole gearset (pinion depth, backlash ect…) or can I just swap out the pinion bearing? I have 488 gears in the lunchbox locker currently.
