Hi Friends!
Today I am going to share with you the negative side effects that I've experienced after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. If you are considering this procedure, I encourage you to speak with your surgeon about the possible risks and side effects so that you can make a fully informed decision about whether this is the right option for you.

Do not get lazy about your vitamins! I stopped my vitamins for a year and now I have neurological issues because I’m so low in B vitamins, especially B12.

I was sleeved May 25th. WOW 😮 My new lifestyle is one for the books and I’m loving it. I was able to rest at home for 7 days before having to return to work as summer school principal. Thankfully I work with some awesome teachers who helped me so I didn’t have to do a lot of extra moving. It took me a full 2+ weeks to start to feel like myself. Walking helped me a lot! In regards to eating, I struggle with eating slowly and NOT drinking water while I eat. I use the mornings to get in my water. I am in the gym at least 4 days each week. On the weekends, I walk outside on a nature trail for 3 miles. Fresh air and vitamin D. I’m down 26 pounds… GO ME!

I am genuinely curios: Why did you get the surgery? In order to lose weight, you just need to eat less, right? All the surgery does is making you feel full faster. Couldnt the same be achieved with less calorically dense foods?

I just got a gastric sleeve august 2nd . I weighed 273 & I currently weight 254 . I feel like I didn’t know everything I needed to know before doing this . I didn’t realized how hard recovery would be & how much of a real change it is . It’s More than just what u eat . You feel completely different . Although it isn’t the easiest thing and there are times I regret it . I come to realized that I don’t . I needed this and it is helping me a lot . But it is a super life style change & mental change . So please be prepared guys . If u thinking of getting it .

This year it’s been 4 year after my gastric bypass. I've never regretted it, I lost 45 kg and I'm now weighting 65 kg (I've gain 6 kg since my lowest weight at 6 months after surgery, but I didn't really felt comfortable at that weight really) but most importantly I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes or thyroid problems anymore. Having said this, long term side effects are a real thing, the greatest thing for me is dumping syndrome: while I feel its more extreme symptoms (rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath and dizziness in my case) shortly after eating rich and/or very sweet foods (I've said goodbye to ice-cream, pastries, cakes and really greasy foods) I feel bloated (farts warning!) and uncomfortable and reaaaally inclined to lay down almost after every meal. About vomiting: It's been my experience that I’m unable to, if you think about normal vomiting. There is simply no food in my "stomach" no bring up but if I overdo it badly in the rich/sweet food department I might spend a full hour or two dry heaving and bring up foam or a bit of liquid. A truly painful experience, 10 out of 10 do not recommend. (this has happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 4 years so it’s not common at all... you learn fast what to avoid, believe me). Another important thing to keep in mind if you've had a gastric bypass: please, TAKE YOU VITAMINS! I made the huge mistake of stopping taking my vitamins (because they upset my stomach) for like half a year, a year after surgery. DO NOT DO IT! I had huge problem with my iron but most importantly with my B12 levels that have caused what might very well be permanent nerve damage resulting in trigeminal neuralgia and loss of feeling on my left arm. Again, I still do not regret my surgery, but I might feel a bit frustrated about not feeling 100% any time I eat anything.

Kara, you an inspiration! I’m 6-7 weeks post op and everything you have said in all your bypass videos resonates with me. Overall...life changing for the better. But yes, different challenges will emerge and I think it’s a positive that the surgery makes us deal with those head on. It’s why we did it, right? So that we wouldn’t fall back to food. I am 60 lbs down already, and while I miss my popcorn and ice cream, and my normal farts, I don’t miss the old lifestyle. Thank you for posting updates for your bypass followers, and much love to you from Michigan ❤️

I’m having the surgery in 2 weeks, not looking forward to the struggle but I know it’ll be worth it. I’m concerned for people like me though, because from the comments it sounds like a lot of us aren’t being fully prepared beforehand. I was required to go to classes and meetings with a nutritionist and even a psychologist before surgery, so they taught us all this stuff but sounds like that’s not the case for a lot of people. They need to be telling everyone what to expect and what to do. Best wishes to all of you 🥰

Good post, thank you. The sleeve is now the most popular procedure BUT it, too, has problems and possible complications. I must mention here Kelly Osbourne, who, last year, stunned everyone with photographs of herself super slim even her cheeks (she had buccal cheek fat removal, which many surgeons won't do as it can be dangerous to facial nerves and muscles). I looked at her pic and said quietly, Gastric Sleeve. Then I read what she said - that it was wonderful blah blah and that she wished she'd done it sooner. Best thing ever. I said, Kelly, check back in six months or a year, and let's see how you're doing. Recently she was pictured 25-30lb overweight yet again, head to toe in black sweats. She's also drinking alcohol as well as eating. I feel sorry for her because honestly this is not a rare occurrence after WLS. She is now being 'fat shamed', which is terrible. Her mother Sharon Osbourne had a gastric bypass years ago but she too regained weight. SO, she 'upgraded' to an additional sleeve. My personal feeling is that WLS is NOT the answer xx

I just found your videos today. I'm am scheduled to have surgery on December 16th, 2020. I just saw my surgeon for the first time on November 5th, 2020; so a rather quick turn of events. I feel like this is a my first steps toward a rewarding and fulfilling life where with work and effort my weight will stop being center stage. So many of the things you have said resonate with me and my struggles. Thank you for sharing your story and process during your journey. I am ready to start my journey and will look forward to sharing with you along the way. Best wishes and strength in light and love.

@@tempemail9670 I am down 61 lbs. I lost 20 lbs before surgery. I feel great but I have found that I really can't tolerate pasta anymore. This was the first week I started eating more variety of food. So far so good except for the pasta. It is still amazing how full I get with such a small portion (usually less than 1/2 cup). How did your surgery go?

Thank you for being bold and honest enough to tell or warn what needs to be said. Why in the world wouldn't this information be covered in advance? Why is it not included in a surgeon's seminar in details like you gave? You covered the possibilities I was concerned about.

@ Rather Padgett, Because it's all about the money! Ins co want you to get the surgery. It's money in their pockets. Money in the Drs pockets too. It's a shame, I agree Drs need to be more honest about how bad post op can be & how long it may last or not. I'm considering this surgery myself but oh my, the side effects of it. I need to think about it more. 😱😰😵😨😢😢😢😧😢

I had gastric bypass 10 years ago and i’m so happy that I was able to have it. Although it didn’t keep the all weight off permanently, ( my weight fluctuates ) it was definitely a great jumpstart! I changed the way that I looked at food at changed my eating habits, walked a whole lot more and stayed away from stressful situations ( yes, stress by itself causes weight gain for many ) I still take my vitamins, I actually cook with protein powder ( low carb pizza crust etc...) I have lost over 100 lbs, was 266 at my highest weight because I was a high risk person with 2 or more underlying issues I was still able to get the surgery with a lower BMI. I had several side affects like nausea and the gas for instance, the first couple of years, but it eventually faded. Good luck everyone and get some charcoal undies for the farts lol...Good luck!

Most just say the positive things and touch on 1 or 2 negative things. I'm unsure if it's just because they haven't experienced negative effects or they just do not want to reveal them ! 🤷🏾‍♀️ Nevertheless, I appreciate your honesty. 🙌🏾 P.S. Thank you again for your support and kindness. Sometimes the emotions sneak up on me; I did a livestream with my husband back in December, I think, about how the surgery has impacted our marriage and I remember tearing up unexpectedly during it. I feel so sorry for the person I thought I was. I just felt so trapped every minute of every day. The freedom I feel from that is incredible.

You have a real down to earth way of communicating and very informative and frank in a way so that one knows ahead about realities I haven't heard of until your experience. Thanks so much for your much appreciated input! I am still trying to decide on gastric bypass and you're definitely helping me. I just don't know how this will work at 68 yrs old and also wanting to fulfill my Bucket List and do major travel for a long time, meaning not just a short vacation. There's all the food and water in other countries, and how long it will be after surgery before I can travel as I don't have a lot of years to play with surgery or no surgery. I realize too that surgery will add more quality years to my life.

There are people of all ages and all stages so I'm sure you'd be able to get insight from someone how had the surgery later in life. I truly enjoyed this video. I’m supposed to set my surgery date on my next appointment and I’m totally on the fence! I just don’t know what to do. I’ve been seeing the surgeon and my nutritionist for over a year and I feel like I’ve gotten more info from you in the last 30 minutes!! And no, I haven’t lost any weight in that year … well I have lost and gained like the yo yo I am. I’m terrified of even more loose skin than I have from 3c-sections, and my huge boobs being saggy when at 54(almost55) they still look pretty great 😂. I think I’ve passed gas in front of my husband of 35 years twice in our lives… this one I had no idea about!I about died laughing the way you shared this and that’s when I hit my *LIKE* button! I wonder if anyone else felt the same way! I’m on support groups and I try to talk to people but I have to say… ANYONE who doesn’t walk away with something from this video is crazy! Thank you so muc! I still have no idea what I’m going to do… but thank you!
